Hi there all you people in the East.

I'm in Cambridge and I'm looking for somewhere I can bring home second hand saddles to try on. Does anyone know of somewhere round me that lets you trial them?

Before you all jump on me the fitter is out in a couple of weeks but I want to try and find something as a jumping off point as they charge so much over the odds if they bring you one out!

French's on huntingdon road used to let you, but not sure they do any more. Juddphurs saddlery charge £50 call out to Girton and then saddle fitting/trying on is free and they have a really good range. Not sure if that's much help! sorry!
Ooo, also possibly try equicentric out at Little Downham

how about trying mick longland he will come out for not to much and has some second hand stuff. If you give him a ring he will tell you if he has anything that is likely to fit.

Would have said equicentric but they have no saddles any more :( the barn shop might still have some

cambridge people - sorry to hijack but what's the riding scene like there? moving in october and won't have much money or time but would love to squeeze in a bit of exercising or something!

I heard equicentric got rid of all their saddles. My plan was to go and get a few from them so now I don't know what to do!

Kitty jay - it depends on what side of cambridge you are looking at, newmarket side theres loads of race work, the other side theres quite a lot of general stuff :) if you want to PM me where your going to be going I will see if I know anything round there

ah pants, can't think of any where alse really, do horse poo do saddles? The only tackshops near I can think of are the barn, french's, highgate, equicentric, horse poo...

KittyJay-Pretty cr@p! I'm currently looking for a horse to exercise as mine is on limited work and there's nout!

I like hearing from all you Cambridge folk don't worry :)

I'll ring the Barn shop and see if they'll let me take them away. They definitely still had them last time I was in there.

I haven't been to equicentric since before Xmas but why did they decide to get rid? They had zillions and they're always really lovely and helpful there. Though I was bound to find something!

You're probably only about 25mins from Sandon saddlery if you know what your looking for and fancy a root around in their cave of saddles!! Or the barn shop in arrington have lots of secondhand atm :)

Have asked to join, thanks for the tip :) Ely depends on whether my brother decides to leave the car at home over summer, bit far on a bike

Jesstickle-We really should arrange a Cambridge meet up at some point! There are quite a few of the little local shows coming up in a couple of months so maybe at one of those. :)

I know. As far as I can tell you are literally just down the road from me!

Are you at Beckbrook or was that someone else?

Sandon Saddlery Co
Rushden Road
Buntingford
Hertfordshire SG9 0QW 01763 287247

It is an "experience" but MY GOD have they got some saddles. It does tend to remind me of one of the sketches of Royston Vasey in some way or other but, seriously, they will have something suitable at the right price and you can take them away!

We may never see you again though ....... he he!

Next question then.

Who wants to come with me? I'm a bit scared. I found an old thread on here trawling google and now I'm a bit worried as I'm very easily bossed :(

Ah tis me :D Are you at chivers? Should arrange a hack or something when pony is feeling a bit better, I used to hack to Impington at lot (I live there) and as I work at the Holiday Inn the GM used to let me ride on the massvie event field and round the lake, was great fun :D

Will try for directions from the Barn shop....

Head south on the A1198 towards Royston. At the roundabout with the A505 (by tesco) go right. Go right at the next roundabout (still on the A505). Follow the dual carriageway past the shell garage and the turning to Steeple Morden. Take the second left towards Sandon (it's just before a kennels).

Follow that little lane all the way into Sandon village and past the church on your left. At the little triangle junction go right, follow the lane past the village green and round the corner to your left, Sandon saddlery is just on your left :)

About 1/2 mile further on on your right is Sales of Sandon - big feed merchant/clothes/rugs/everything but saddles shop :D

If that makes no sense then PM me when you're going to the Barn shop and if I'm free I'll show you the way!

V we should go, we can pick up JoG on the way through

Next time I ride round the back of BB (which I do quite often) I can wave at your beast :)

O, and yeah, I'm at Chivers :D

Sounds good to me! If you riding a gelding just look for something that's charging over lame and acting like a wh*re and that's her! :p :D I love my pony really! :D Ooo and if your at chivers say 'hi' to Coral for me, owns hepburn, chubby flee bitten grey, heinz 57 pony, wears a lot of pink (both rider and horse :o )!

Thought I should add, I'm a student and work evenings so have waaay too much free time during the day in which I should be working so I'm good to go whenever :p

I know who Coral is :) We ride out together sometimes. That's how I know where BB is now :p

She hurt her ankle bless her so she's been off her feet :(

I do ride a gelding. It's big and bay and when it gets about to yours it decides to fart about and I can usually be seen reversing at speed towards the ditch.

Sounds amazing! Me and Steph (another girl from BB) love tack shop trips so I'm sure I can persuade her to come along and we can escort you :D
Yup, would definitely be up for a tack shop reccy (anything to break up writing up thesis!).

D'you ride past BB often? and if so what on? (recognise most of the regular hackers at least by sight). Would also be interested in meeting up for mooch out if you'd like - once Vallin goes back to Uni, I'll be back to hacking out all on my lonesome again!

:D a hack with you/me/Vallin could be very interesting then, given the amount of time the girls spent in reverse gear when we were out at Rowleys this morning!

Were you with her about two weeks ago when a crazy lady in a green car waved madly out the window at her? If so that was me :p Ahh, the ditch, how we love it, I too have had far too many close calls, I have on more than one occasion been caught hurtling through the trees (on the BB side) at full pelt towards it, did not appreciate that! Me and Steph took the girls out today and no idea what's wrong with them but they both decided that going past the hedgline where the New Forrest ponys are was an aboslute no-no so spent a good 10mins reversing/spinning/being general prats as and older gentleman watched and laughed!

Add in my horses new found love of hurtling over ditches rather than walking down and up them quietly and it should make for an amusing hack!
ps. she seemed a lot better when I went down this 'save though still not quite right, fencing was still in one piece though :D
