east angular people

I come by probably about once a month. We have a few routes so we cycle through.

I'm the one in pink hiviz on a big bay horse surrounded by girls in yellow on black cobs!

We should definitely go for a ride :)

Add in my horses new found love of hurtling over ditches rather than walking down and up them quietly and it should make for an amusing hack!
We're textbook us....;)

ps. she seemed a lot better when I went down this 'save though still not quite right, fencing was still in one piece though :D
Odds on her still being there in the morning though? :p

Next question then.

Who wants to come with me? I'm a bit scared. I found an old thread on here trawling google and now I'm a bit worried as I'm very easily bossed :(

I'll go with you if you want, it's my local and I know them all quite well. You just have to be thankful the you can go home afterwards. I am Cambs side of Sandon now but used to live in Sandon!

Hi Thistle. You came up in the old thread and I was actually going to PM you to ask your advice but here you are :) :)

In all earnestness, am I genuinely going to find something? Is it really definitely ok to take away and try things? I don't want to take the Mick after all.

I am a complete pansy and not very good at dealing with people. I'm aware that that sounds ridiculous, but I just can't say no so I end up spending money I don't have if I'm pressurised. Either that or getting scared and running off like an idiot. Sigh!

Sandon saddlery at Sandon near Royston is excellant. Miss D-N will usually let you take things on trial if you pay by card, and I have had no problems returning things that did not fit.
Be warned do not go on a Saturday or in the school holidays and have a good idea of what you want, she has 100's of s-hand saddles

They will try to get you to buy something, but equally you can return it.

Can you box your horse up and bring it? Lesley will happily fit saddles on a horse in a trailer!. I'm 15mins away now but you could always bring a 'shortlist' back to mine and try them in the school if it helps.

When you take stuff away (if Miss DDN doesn't know you) then you have to pay up front but they will refund whatever you bring back.

I was in there yesterday, found just the spurs I wanted, and a very nice book. Don't go on Wed, it's usually Lesleys day off and she is the only one who doesn't seem like an extra in a drama about a home for people with dementia iykwim. Miss DDN is getting on a bit now (in her 80's I think) but is still in work every day, she is rather deaf and can be somewhat opinionated and short tempered, I sometimes time my visits for when she has gone home for lunch if I'm in a hurry, if not I have a chat with her as she often gives me a discount!

This place really does sound amazing! I'm imagining a sort of aladin's cave that smells like leather and old books with a bit of chanel no. 5 thrown in for good measure! :D

Stoopid hoss is having issues travelling at the moment. Hence me wanting to take things to him rather than the other way round. If I boxed him over he'd just be a massive knobber and thrash about. Or I wouldn't get him on at all (FWIW I am working on it and I have NO idea where all this is coming from, but that is life with brown horse sadly!)

Maybe I'll hang on a few weeks and then he can come over for a road trip. I might pop over before though as it sounds like an amazing place. I messaged my friend who grew up round here last night to ask if she'd been and she said everyone has been and ridden the rocking horse! Clearly they're a bit of an institution :)

And thank you for the incredibly kind offer of your school. Unbelievingly nice of you! I may end up having to take you up on it as stupid horse has a massive shoulder and it's hard to fit things without riding in them as it only really become apparent one he gets going. You put things on him and they sit nicely and then once you get on and get going you realise all the muscle of his shoulder is being bunched up.

Basically, in short, not only is he a horrible animal to do, he is a horrible animal to buy saddles and rugs for too. I don't know why I persevere with him I really don't!!

anyway, that got long but thank you very much :)

Sandon Saddlery was my favourite shop ever for years. Going back 30+ years on I'm sure some of the stock is the same . . .

Jess, your yard is roughly on the way to Sandon for me, if you want to arrange with Thistle to try kit at her yard I'll come and give you a hand loading your bad lad - I can even bring lorry with superb loader for him to follow if you want. Could have a mini meet up! I do have to get over there at some point as I appear to have bought a new pony who will need some kitting out (ooops).

Hiya, what kind of saddle are you looking for? I have a 17in XW ideal GP that you would be more than welcome to try on. I'm Cambridge too so easy enough!

I love Sandon! I remember going there aged 15 looking for a flash noseband and i got challenged with a 'have you thought of trying to school your pony???'!!!!!. I think its her fault I now have an aversion to buying anything other than french links and cavesson nosebands...I'm too scared to take anything else to the till!

(and yes, I had tried schooling the pony thanks very much!)

Fo' shizzle! (feel it neccessary to highlight the student contingent :D ) The castle pub on caste hill is nice, or the granta pub opposite staples has a lovely garden looking out onto the river...

Ooo lunch. Sounds good to me :)

I guess I'll be safe there as I ride me hoss in a french link loose ring and cavesson then :)

jemima_too I would love to bum a lift down there with you on your lorry but only if you're going anyway. I'm not having you come out especially for me!!

On the subject of lunch I am off to get some now but when is East angular lunch/meet up thing happening?

How many of us are working next week? I'm off if anyone wants it then.

I hope no one tells her this as I would hate to offend her but Sandon is a bit like one of the shops in Harry Potter, full of things you've only ever seen in books but not one of them but one in every single size. Get her on the subject of saddle fitters....,most of her nearly new saddles are the result of saddle fitters.
I once had the pleasure of listening to her 'tell off' and awefully posh man in his 30's when he suggested his new polo boots were too long.

I think we'll get along swimmingly. I don't have much time for saddle fitters either :o

She sounds like a slightly older version of my own mother to be honest. Don't tell the mothership I said that mind!
