East Northants People - has anyone had a vetting carried out recently?

Hi All

I am just about to have some checks done on my loan horse who I am hoping to buy and am wondering whether to just go with a 2 stage vetting.

I have had him on loan for 3 months and have access to previous vet records so am confident he is fine in most areas I just have a concern about some noise he makes seemingly in his breathing. My plan was to get a vet to assess him at rest and then after exercise just literally for this but I am not sure whether this will end up costing me more than a 2 stage.

So I was just wondering whether anyone had recently had a 2 stage done by either Swanspool or Fellows Farm and how much is cost? I know I can phone and ask but I am being impatient and don't want to wait until Monday lol!

If you want him examined at exercise it will be more like a 5 stage than 2 so it will cost more.
There should be no reason you cannot just arrange for a vet to examine him at exercise and give an assessment without it being classed as a vetting. If you want his eyes checked at the same time that should be possible, you just wont have a vetting certificate but unless a vetting is required for insurance it should not matter.
I have done similar, just had a quick check over of heart and eyes when buying one that was in my yard.
 
Thanks be positive thats what I thought. It was only because the Fellows Farm vet told my YM when Max had his jabs and she mentioned my plan that I might as well have a 2 stage vetting as it would cost the same. Could have just been trying to get more money though!
 
I use Swanspool vets and really really rate them they have always been fab atm they are dealing with a challenging condition that my mare has developed and have always done best by my mare even when they could no longer help us and sent us to Rossedales.

Fellows on the other hand no longer seem to have the rep that they used to have. though i havent personally used them friends who have got the impression that they were more interested in the money than in the animals that they were dealing with.

I have no idea how much swanspool charge for a vetting as i didnt have one for either of my horses but they have always priced things fairly in my experience

I stopped using Fellowes Farm owing to their increasingly obnoxious attitude. Nothing wrong with the vets, but trying to get through via the receptionist was a battle I really couldn't be arsed with every time I rang up.
I now use Oakham Vets who have been exemplary and are never concerned about how/when you contact them - they always leave a personal mobile number and the proviso to call whenever (not that I would do, of course). After Fellowes, it was a terribly refreshing attitude.
 
I use Fellowes & have never had a problem. In fact they have usually recommended ther cheaper of any options. If you use Swanspool, make sure you ask for Pat.
 
Hi all

Thanks for comments on vets I agree with all of the above re Swanspool and fellows and had totally intended to use Swanspool for my check namely Pat as have had similar experiences with fellows and only use them for routine things because of their free visit day!

My YM is booking her horse in for his next check up (shoulder injury) with Swanspool on Monday so she is going to speak to Pat or Oliver about it for me then.
