I am helping a rider who has lost her confidence and would love some ideas for easy exercises to do in the school with her on her horse.

I'm not aiming at getting brilliant schooling from the pony but getting the rider relaxed and smiling!

Any suggestions.....

When I give my friend lessons who isn't a very confident rider I make a maze in the school with a few poles making an 'S' and other shapes, gets them both thinking and it's good fun i think.

you don't say what age the rider is or what standard, use of music, poles, cones, adapt some gymkhana games anthing that causes the person to concentrate on what they are doing instead of their nerves.

I always do a dressage test if I'm feeling a bit wobbly. You could read one out to your friend, even if just a walk trot test,
I find I concentrate on transitions and shapes I forget worrying :)

It might be worth trying some of the RDA type exercises, first at the halt, touching hat knees shoulders, being an airoplace etc, then at walk on the lunge. Does wonders for position, makes the rider laugh and takes their mind off being in charge of the horse. :)

Have you seen those big massive dice that have a different thing to do on each side?

Cost a bit of money so maybe just flip a coin but the deal s you have to do whatever side it comes down on - e.g. heads canter a circle with no stirrups, tails around the world
