I know some on you were interested in hearing about the Easyboot Transitions. Not a huge update as yet as I haven't started riding my mare in them yet -she's on holiday for a couple of months which ends in 2 weeks (can't wait to get back on!!)- but I do hand walk her for 30 mins in the evenings on both concrete and in the school. I'm starting her back in work in 2 weeks time so I wanted to get her used to the boots and 'break them in' a bit so I'm able to take her for a 45 min walking hack when she starts work again without worrying about them rubbing (hopefully!)

Small bit of background- Freya is a 5yo TB ex racehorse (out of racing 18 months, raced 27 times as 2yo-4yo. I've had her a year) who has had her shoes off for 5 weeks. Fine in the school, flat concrete, a bit uncomfey on uneven camber/ stones so felt I needed some boots for hacking only. She is extremely sensitive (she's ginger!) to anything that might rub her.

I went for the Easyboot Transition as recommended by Cannock Chase Equine. I got a size 2 and a 3 as he feet are slightly different sizes. They do look fairly clumpy but are very lightweight and neat with a thick neoprene lining and no seams or edges inside that looked likely to rub. Her feet are longer than they are wide. Front left is 122m wide and 130mm long and right is 130mm wide and 140mm long. Fairly under run heels though huge improvements in just 5 weeks barefoot.

They went on fairly easily and fit very snuggly. 2 lots of velcro on each boot, basically done as tight as you can. Obviously you have to wriggle them a bit to get them on but they are fairly easy and the velcro isn't any hassle. I'd say 30 secs max to do each boot and half the time to take them off.

She didn't even notice they were on. Walked straight out of her stable and stormed around the yard, over all the uneven bits, tight turns and stony ground no problem at all. I only had them on for 5 mins the first day just to be safe but no rubbing problems. The next day (after I'd established they definitely fit) I used the Lanacane powder in them to prevent chafing (thanks Brightbay for the recommendation!) and walked her round the yard and school for 20/ 30 mins. They didn't move at all and came off with no evidence that they has rubbed or chafed anywhere and she was very comfy in them.

So I'm pleased with them at the moment but obviously we've only just started in them. As I say she's coming back into work in 2 weeks so will use them to hack only so will keep you updated if anyone's interested.

Hope that's helpful :)

Thank you for the update. I'm interested in these boots. I've currently got Old Mac 2s on my boys hinds and Cavello Sports on his front (which are a friends of mine that she's lent me for a bit). I notice that the cavello's don't seem to have as good a grip as the old macs. So my question is how would you rate the grip of yours?

I've only just started with them and have only walked around the yard and the school so can't really rate the grip as yet, though we do have a slight slope on the yard which she strides down very confidently in them.

Thanks for the update - they sound better than I thought they would be, reading up on them. The ease of putting on and taking off is really a big thing with boots.

Most horses who have been feeling their feet a bit seem to take instantly to boots, it's always nice to see!

Just to update, I started riding Freya again nearly 2 weeks ago and have been on several hacks in these boots. I really rate them for the ease of putting them on/ taking them off. She's a very sensitive skinned horse and these boots haven't rubbed at all, even when they've gone on wet legs.

Definitely worth the money if anyone's looking for a quality boot.

They are fantastic boots...we use them to keep poultices on the hooves of horses who are actually living out 24/7 - and they actually work! Have never had one come off, even on the youngsters who hooly around the field all the time. The soles haven't worn at all, although a couple of the straps have actually had to be replaced.
