Normally my horses go out every day no mater what but due to the snow thawing and leaving my paddocks in a sloppy mess, they have been kept in for a few days untill they dry out a bit ( which fortunately they do quite quickly) While I have been mucking out, I have been turning my two, a mare and a gelding out in the menage for a good romp around before I ride. When I went to fetch them in yesterday, I caught the mare tucking into a pile of poo that the gelding had very kindly left! She has never done this before and was wondering if you guys have any experience of this?
She is fed haylage and has two generous feeds a day consisting of high fibre cubes, garlic, carrots and safe and sound chaff. She always has clean water and a salt lick. I do not add a vitamin supplement as I believe she gets enough from what is in her short feed, however, I now think I might need to add some sort of supplement. Any ideas?
