Can anybody recommend something to put on straw bedding to stop pony from eating it. I want to start bringing him in now at night but darent incase he eats so much straw that he gets colic. Have already tried vinegar and water and that doesnt seem to work.

Any recommendations would be appreciated (:

Just read you tried vinegar :p are you sure it was strong enough? we use 1 parts vinegar to 4 parts water.
Id be wary about using products such as dettol or jeyes fluid in case he eats it I doubt it will be good for him!
Worst case scenario when he wees dont take it all out and mix it throughout his straw the smell should be enough to put him off without it actually being "dirty".

We tried all sorts, in the end he ate so much of it that he got rushed into the vets and had to have an opperation, we live a shavings life now and avoid straw at all costs! I would highly recommend proceding with caution, after seeing what it can do first hand i would never ever risk it again!

i use bliss and/or shavings together.i NEVA use straw-its non absorbent and bulky to store.i hate the stuff.horses just gorge on it after they eaten their hay.high risk of colic and putting on too much weight.i avoid it at all costs and so should you if your horses are stuffing themselves with it.
