Just sold some horsey items on ebay, I put in my listing that I would very much like paying via cheque or PO due to charges that paypal imposes, as its not worth selling them. However some people have still paid via paypal. What should I do - refund them and say i want a cheque?

yes! I payed someone by paypal as they did accept it but changed their mind! i payed by PO in the end but it took a while for paypal to refund me!

Depends on what you bought! The trouble is some ofthe items have only sold for a couple of quid so by the time you have taken off paypal and ebay fees there isnt much left for me

unfortunatly that is the way ebay works. You need to price to ensure you can afford the fees or accept you will make a loss on one item and gain on another. Most people like to pay with paypal.

You arent guaranteed to make a profit you just have to accept it.

If you've offered Paypal as an option I don't think you can then say you want paying by cheque. I only buy things off ebay by Paypal. If sellers only accept a cheque/PO I don't bother bidding as it's too much of a faff on, I really can't be bothered to write a cheque out, buy a stamp and then walk to the post box when there is the option of pressing a few keys and paying by Paypal.
Maybe I'm just lazy.

i only pay by paypal too. twice i've paid for things with a PO and twice i've never seen the goods i paid for

least with paypal you get a chance of getting your money back. the PO money i never got back

Yep, I once paid by cheque and then ended up in an ebay dispute. They said they never received the cheque so never sent the goods. The cheque had been cashed so must have been received. This is the kind of thing that can happen.

I prefer paypal and usually avoid auctions where paypal is not accepted.

You can't insist they pay you by cheque or PO. If you have offered the option of PAYPAL, they have every right to use PAYPAL to pay you.

I don't think you have an option not to offer paypal anymore. When i advertised my lorry on there the ad said i accepted paypal and i don't even have a paypal account.I couldn't see anywhere to take the option off.

Paypal is really easy to use. I sell things in an ebay shop (equestrain extras) and it works really well! ps Ive got a sale on at the moment

Oh, right...........I guess then if you don't want to risk being paid by PAYPAL, your only option is to sell elsewhere.

You cannot actually say that you not accept Paypal.
Its is one of Ebays terms. You have to offer it.
You can state that you prefer other payment methods but people are not obliged to use them.
I had several listings closed because I stated in the listing that I would not accept Paypal due to the high fees.
Its best to factor in the fees when calculating the selling price.

I don't think that Ebay is such a great way to sell your stuff after all, its horrendous when you add up the Listing fee, Final valuation fee and Paypal fees.

I sold a saddle that went for £260 and the total fees came to over £34.00!

I will only pay by PayPal. I bought a saddle two weeks ago and got the run around around from the seller. Posted on here about it and got great advice, so put in a PayPal claim and I am getting all of my money back. If I had paid by cheque, I would have had much more trouble.

I think since the 3rd on june 08 pay pal is no longer an option, you have to offer this to buyers now. Pay Pal states this option on all your e-bay listings now and you can't take it off. I no how you feel

but i to have also paid for items via p.order and never got the items... so I think Pay Pal is a good thing

QR.... you were lucky to sell it then..... when I put that I preferred to be paid by cheque... guess what.....

They removed all my listings.... and I couldnt relist anything free

So ebay can shove it up their **** now for all I care....

They have priced the little person out of the market with their greed

funnily enough i use paypal all the time for non ebay things but the ebay fees are hideous. there is an alternative called ebid that seems quite good. i am just trying it out right now and will post when i see how it works out.

I look at ebid sometimes and it really wouldn't surprise me if it slowly takes over from ebay. Ebay are just too greedy now, my husband has closed his shop on there.
As stated already, you MUST offer Paypal and, if that is the preferred method by buyers, you MUST accept their payment through Paypal.
