I have two saddles to sell and one that I need to buy.

So, my mum wants me to sell my saddles on ebay, but isnt keen that I buy one from there.

My thoughts are though if i dont buy one from there why would someone else??! Im not sure (but am keeping an eye out anyway - I love ebay!)

So just wondering peoples thoughts and opinions? would you buy a saddle and/or sell a saddle on there?

I have done both with no probs. Got a good price for my Black Country monoflap XC saddle, though it didn't sell first time so I had to list it twice.

Bought an Albion dressage saddle a few years ago - I had tried one and knew what size/width etc. I wanted. It was slightly scruffier than I expected but a reasonable price and had no problems with the tree/girth straps etc.

I have bought and sold on ebay, but i think that things are slowing down as i tried to sell one abit ago and failed. I think if your saddle is a big name, mine was a Butet, then it will be ok, the one i bought a jaguar.
It is worth putting it on with a starting price that you are happy to sell it for, if it goes thats fine, if it doesnt you havent lost much!

Have done both! Have sold a couple of saddles, and brought my current saddle which was the BEST buy EVER! However, it was slightly nail biting but I would do it again... just a more local buy as I brought my saddle from Germany!!! Eek!!

I always buy and sell on Ebay and tbh I have never had any problems at all. I've just sold 2 through there and I am currently shopping for a jumping/xc saddle for my mare (anyone got anything 17.5, med fit?

) at the mo. Only bad thing is when you get outbid on one you really want - like me last night..!

I do loads of research to find out what size/shape etc I need and get lots of pics etc of what I am buying to make sure it's going to be suitable, then I get it checked by a fitter once its here. Job done!

This sounds promising - very good to head of good experiences

from both a selling/buying perspective

I have two second hand saddle from saddlers to try (all they had - im not to keen on them

) and I am really not keen on buying new (my horse is 15 and I am sort of thinking of putting her in foal next year)

Ebay have changed the rules about saddle sellig and won't release the money until 3 weeks after the sale, or positive feedback is left.

This means that the buyer can abuse your saddle, claim they didn't get it etc etc and then claim the money back.

there are some posts in New lounge (a few weeks ago) about it

I have just sold three saddles on eBay to pay for my new work-of-the-devil Butet dressage saddle

Slightly mixed experience: sold a nice but elderly Jaguar to Holland, price I received was reasonable but with all the charges (commission, PayPal etc) seemed a lot less in the end, and bl**dy girl who bought it was a pain in the backside, first complaining it was not showroom clean (it was 8 years old and well-used
wink.gif
, and the price she paid reflected that), then claimed it had a broken tree!!

Now claims to have sold it on at the same price she bought from me, even with a broken tree!!!

Then sold a very old KN, received my opening bid which wasn't much but whole sale has been very easy and delivered saddle at Badminton so no postage for buyer and no PayPal for me

. Finally a four-figure Ansur Treeless which I had to list twice but sold second time - buyer has only just received so haven't had any feedback yet but hopefully will all be ok as very smart almost new saddle.

My experience is that people do buy saddles - all mine were very different, selling from £275 to over £1000. Don't underestimate the hassle-factor, people asking questions, wanting more photos, will you ship to Outer Mongolia etc (I just ignored questions I regarded as silly or irrelevant

), and shipping which ended up as quite a hassle with the Ansur.

I'm not sure people buy secondhand saddles many other ways these days, retailers certainly aren't very interested in selling for you (apart from Anky happily sold a secondhand Butet for me but that was a bit different). Good luck anyway!

I'm not entirely sure this is right? I sell lots of saddles on eBay, and havent come across this yet. Also cant find any information about this on the eBay website itself.

That rule applies only to newbies selling high value items to stop the scam artists

If you regularly buy and sell this does not apply

Its a good rule, to stop people taking the money and disappearing before sending the goods!

I've done both as well with no real probs.

Well known brands def. sell the best. I bought, used for a year and sold again a pony pessoa a couple of years ago, got the same as I paid.

Recently bought an albion dressage saddle, seller asked me to leave + feed back asap as she was being made to wait for my funds by paypal.

Ive bought and sold saddles on there too, no problems at all. But its so annoying when you get outbit.... i found the perfect dressage saddle after waiting for a gooden at the right price last night and someone bidded over me at 10 bloody seconds

It's paypal that freezes the money for 3 weeks & you have to use paypal if you've sold less than 10 (I think) items.

I sold a saddle on ebay a few years ago & had loads of problems. Girl initially said it was great etc (was sold as being suitable to back a horse & only £100) then a few days later claimed the tree was broken & wanted her money back. Meantime she relisted it on ebay

Then I bought a saddle on there last year which I just couldn't get to fit my mare so I sold it again on ebay to a lady in Finland and it couldn't have been easier.

I think it's a case of having eyes wide open but you'll probably get the best price for them on ebay. I also put ads in saddleries & only got a couple of people interested. One wanted me to take the saddle to her (10 miles away) to try in on her horse!!

I have sold saddles on ebay and also bought one from there. I was a bit cheeky and got a saddler to fit a dressage saddle to my horse then bought a 2nd hand one the same make/size from ebay instead! The new saddle was about £900 whereas I got exactly the same saddle on ebay for £250! It was an ideal jessica
