A little (read Long) moan for a Tuesday morning...

Within an hour of listing my ariat boots on Ebay, I sold them for a perfectly reasonable "Buy it Now" price. But, although Buyer clicked to Buy them right that second, they then failed to pay for them! I contact buyer several times, eventually asking in a nice way that if they were having trouble paying could they please let me know as I would like to relist - no response.
So I check their feedback, and see that there have been quite a few occasions where they have not despatched items that people had paid for - the reason given is that they were in hospital after falling off their horse. Fair enough, reasonable excuse.

Two days later still no payment or response to my emails...I couldn't help myself, I sent this:

"Hello there

I've relisted the boots as I am assuming that due to lack of contact and response to my requests for payment - despite you selecting "Buy It Now" but not clicking "Pay Now" immediately afterwards - you no longer want to purchase the boots I have taken time (and paid) to list.

Bit of pain in the ass, as I now have to wait another two days to report you and try to reclaim my listing fee, whilst in the meantime I've lost out on other buyers when all you had to do was request that the transaction be cancelled. Perhaps I should do this to your item so that you understand how irritating and bloody rude it is.

***** happens, we all make ebay mistakes, but I have neither the time nor inclination to sit here and re-post items (at time and cost to me) because you don't have the courtesy and manners to let me know there has been a change of mind"

Funnily enough I received a reply immediately, saying something along the lines of, they had been in hospital having suffered a "young horse fall" (whatever that is), she really wants the boots and could they pay me now for them.

Yeah right, so I replied yes they she can pay now, but added how I couldn't understand that she was able to click Buy It Now, but then not able to click "Pay Now" immediately after (she must have been bidding whilst riding, just before her "young horse fall"!)
And..guess what - No Payment!
(but didn't care, by now I didn't want her to have my bl@@dy lovely boots!)
I was also half tempted to do the same with her saddle she was selling...

So boots were relisted, expressly saying if you don't intend to pay, please do not bid. And guess what again - someone places a bid 15 minutes before the auction ends....and again a day later I am still waiting to be paid.

It's annoying is that as a seller, you're not able to leave Negative feedback as a warning to others.....yet Buyers can leave bad reviews for Sellers.....

I am going to give up on this ebay lark me thinks. :(

Time for a cup of tea.

Can you still report them as non paying buyers to Ebay to at least stop them doing this to others? I'd have been fuming too, especially as it stops other genuine buyers being able to have them.

Yes you can...eventually. After you wait, four days to be paid, it then takes a week (approx) to be able to finally recoup selling fees (10% of the sale price) and listing fees, and I don't know if this gets mentioned on their feedback profile as such - we shall see.

When this happened before, I complained to Ebay and was told it wasn't fair for Buyers to be have negative feedback displayed! Bloomin' cheek.

I thought there was an option in the listing process, where yo ucan require someone to make immediate payment?

People like this are a right pain aren't they. Hope you get your payment from the second buyer promptly!

I think you would be better to auction with a reserve price.
To me BIN s are for items which people might need asap, and / or there are several available.
I gave up selling on Ebay, the fees are gobsmacking and the purchasers get pretty nippy if one is a newby seller, last one moaned so much and reported me even though I explained the [two day] delay, I sold an item as shabby chic, and apparently it had a few cat hairs and a tiny hole in it [a waxed jacket that had been worn about six times]

I know how you feel.Im waiting on some books, emailed seller,no response, ebay wouldnt let me open a dispute until the 23rd so I opened one in paypal and escalated it too a claim.Still not recieved items and still no contact from seller. She is a newbie on ebay and is at zero score after my negative.
Ive had people mess me about on ebay a few times and YES its VERY aggrivating. Why cant they just ask for transaction to be cancelled. Some people Grrrrrrrrrr. Us REBORNERS are always getting none payers.(make lifelike babies).
Someone came all the way from Doncaster to buy a watch,(after they transferred 100.00 deposit thru their bank).Turns out the bogus seller gave my neighbours address and she asked
knocked on my door to ask if I had heard of the people (sellers) No I said. Poor men I felt sorry for them as they drove hours for what.Police were informed.

IF I WAS YOU,go and OPEN a NONE PAYMENT with either EBAY OR PAYPAL and let them deal with the buyer. Hope your item sells second time around.

Don't get me started on ebay. I can't believe they get away with their trading ethics (if you can even call them ethics).

All stacked in favour of the buyer. doesn't matter if they shaft the seller, ebay will always side with them.

Was wondering about getting a load of people together who had been done over by ebay and doing a mass tort thing in court. Think this will be the only way to make them listen to the sellers.

It doesn't matter what T&Cs a seller puts in their ads, ebay will always ignore if a buyer raises a dispute (regardless if it is unfounded).

Sold a really lovely Sabre bridle last year and put in my ad (very clearly in bold red) that I required payment within 24 hours (needed the money urgently). Buyer didn't pay, emailed countless times, tried to cancel the bid but wasn't allowed. ebay told me I had to allow buyer 7 days to pay WHY???? you can't do that shopping online with other sites, why should the fact that I am a private seller mean that I can't stipulate my selling terms?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

sorry, rant over

Is it possible that they are having paypal problems? Earlier this year I bid on a load of stuff and was then unable to pay because out of the blue for no apparent reason paypal put a freeze on my account for fraud monitoring. Paypal didn't warn me, I thought I had paid the sellers so was sat at home waiting for items to turn up. Only when the sellers started messaging me saying why haven't you paid, do you still want this stuff did I check my paypal and see that although I had gone through the payment process funds hadn't been released to the sellers.

It took bloody ages to sort it all out and was very embarrassing.

It was auction too (with no reserve) - so I always give either option; wait and bid or buy it now.

Yes I did think that there could be a problem with Paypal, which is why I sent seperate emails and ebay invoices - to no avail!

Speaking of T&C in ads: when submitting the second listing, I actually said, if you're not prepared to pay, then don't bid or buy. When I pressed Submit, a warning popped up that I couldn't put such T&C in my ad. I ignored and pressed continue and it listed with no problem (with my caveat included).

Bl&ody outrageous.

I'll have a look at the pay now option. Although on this second occassion, it was just someone who won the bid, so don't think it would work for second scenario.

How can someone get a refund and keep the item; what a cheek!

ps what's tamping?!

I'm making myself crosser now!

Not always the case! I took out a claim against a seller, because they hadn't sent me my item. They basically told me they had no proof! I was horrified! It was only £7.99, but when you have no job, that's a lot of money!

I've stopped using ebay. Just been messed about way too much by them and done over by unscrupulous buyers.

Like the women who bought a leather jacket from me, in excellent condition. Had it a week (knew this from signed for date from PO) then contacted me to say had a rip in the leather. She opended dispute, ebay sided with her, she returned it 2 weeks later stinking of perfume, covered in stratches and marks. Was so obvious she had been wearing it and caused damage herself. I was out of pocket all round and stuck with a damaged jacket which wasn't repairable.
