.... someone would want to know the serial number of a saddle I was selling? I just can't think why someone would want to know it but they have messaged me twice to ask. I suppose they can get some history on the saddle maybe? Except there isn't any..... I may be over suspicious but I just worry if I give them the number they can claim its their saddle and I've pinched it off them etc.... Probably being really stupid.... but just can't see why they are so keen to know! Enlighten me someone please so I can stop my suspicious mind going into overdrive LOL!
 
Not sure? Unless it confirms the size etc, but not sure where they would check this? Just tell them you could not find one, and only have the model number.
 
They could probably confirm the make, model and the age of the saddle with the serial#. If you have proof of ownership, I don't see how they could claim it was theirs. They could also be trying to trace a saddle of theirs that had been stolen. Why not ask WHY they want the serial #
 
If it's a make they know has a serial number then that could make them assume that it's not what you say it is.

If it's one you bought from new, as you say there is no history on it, then the saddler should have a record it was sold to you so no chance they could claim it was nicked, on the other hand if they had that make model and colour stolen they could just be checking it isn't theirs. More probably though they are just trying to check it's the age you claim that it is.
 
I've asked for seriel numbers for saddles on ebay before. They can confirm they are genuine and often the size and width of a saddle. For example, a seller might be selling it as a medium wide, but the serial number will confirm or deny that on some makes.

I bought a butet off ebay and I got the serial number to contact Selderholm Select to check it wasnt stolen and that the sizing was as the seller was stating so I knew it would fit my horse.
 
i've been looking for a very specific saddle secondhand and to confirm if the saddle is and often isn't what I want I need the serial number to check with the manufacturer how the saddle was built- there's often a choice of trees, what colour/width was it built to, how old it is and a few other modifications that I want that while the seller can answer some questions others they haven't got a clue! I would be suspicious if a seller didn;t want to give serial number, suggests saddle not genuine, or stolen.

if the saddle was bought new the seller may have this information, but if it has been bought secondhand this information is often lost.
 
Aha, so it does confirm sizes etc! Okay, so don't miss out on a sale, give them the serial numer, I know how hard it is to sell saddles - no-one wants mine! :rolleyes::mad:
 
Yes, they can indeed check from the Manufacturer what exactly the saddle is, eg, make, model, size, colour etc, and often they can also check that it is not a stolen saddle.
