ebay - buyers grr

I recently sold a pair of Brand new leather riding boots in their box. My Oh had bought them for me but they are too wide. They were about £170 and I sold them for £56. In the advert I put in the width around the calf and the height of the boot both at the back of the knee and the highest point at the side. They were paid for and sent out within 24 hours. Today I get a message from the buyer saying they are not wide. Why on earth do people not read the adverts - if it says it is 15.5 inches round the calf and your calf is bigger than that then they are not going to fit. Am waiting to see what she comes back with next. I can see an item not as described dispute coming. So how wide is wide. As far as I am concerned my calves are not skinny but these boots were just too wide for me. and by giving the sizes surely its up to them to measure their leg to establish whether or not they will fit.
 
I bought a pair recently, measurments wre a bit iffy but I took the chance.....They were too small.

Have had my local saddle put a zip down the back at a cost of £35, the boots now fit like a glove and have worked out a bargain!!

Tell her to trot off and do the same!!
 
Obviously what is wide to one person may not be wide to another, but you gave the actual measurements, so they can't argue with that. I can't see them winning any dispute, but you could do without that.

You are totally in the right!!! No dispute should even happen! If you have all the correct info as you have stated its the buyers fault! You dont even have to refund!!! and £56 what a bargin!
 
It is so annoying when you put detailed description but you may have another option if you are willing to take the risk.

I had a similar incident with a bit that I sold so I suggested that either they sell it on again or I said I would refund the price of the bit minus the postage (buyers risk and what every other business does about returns) They decided to return it to me then I relisted it and sold it for way more than I originally did!

You should be able to relist for free/very small amount or you could do a 'second chance offer' to the next highest bidder.
Just a thought.....
Good luck and don't despair - most e-bay things go through fine or are sorted quite easily in my experience.
 
That price was a bargain. The buyer has no grounds for dispute in my opinion. I mean what do you do when you buy boots and shoes from the shops? You damned well try them on. If this is not possible then you use any measurements given ( which you clearly stated) and then take the relevant measurements on your own leg to see if they would fit.
Bloody numpties. Are people that fckn thick. I do believe some people are clearly not born with a fully functioning brain in their head.
I feel sorry for OP as ebay being as ebay are they may well side with the buyer. I had an issue with them last year in which I was unfairly treated when I had done nothing wrong but the buyer had. Ebay treated me like s***, as if I was the one in the wrong when it turned out this person had fraudulently used a paypal account to pay for an item. Payment address was all the same, only difference was the email address of the buyer compared to the paypal email address. But having seen that happen before I didn't think there was any issue with it. The matter was not brought up until a week later, and ebay said if you haven't posted yet then don't. As if I would wait a week to post something when they paid instantly. Anyway to cut a long story short ebay wouldn't accept a certificate of posting as proof of post, even though the buyer had left feedback saying they had received the item etc and had sent me messages saying the same. ebay didn't want to know. They refunded the person the money. I filed a non paying bidder claim. Feedback from buyer was removed, I was out of pocket and buyer got to keep item. Buyer had got in touch in between time saying it was something to do with them validating their bank account and that they would make arrangements with me to pay me. They never did and despite requests I never got them item back either. I still have their address though and I haven't forgotten either! Now I choose to send via courier or recorded delivery.
So if ebay can be so awkward and pedantic over something like that when the seller wasn't at fault ( item as described and sent promptly) then who knows what they will decide to do about OP's boots ?
