As above, got home from work so not in the mood for this to find seller won't refund my money.

I just bought a used hanging cheek french link bit of the Neue Schule variety or so I thought. It has arrived today and is in fact bog standard steel I think and pretty poor quality to boot.

The NS version is around £50 new so I thought £33 was a fair price for a used one. Anyway, it doesn't have the arrow stamped on the mouthpiece and definitely isn't Salox metal.

What to do? Have referred the matter to ebay as didn't get a satisfactory reply from the seller but any advice/Neue Schule experts out there?

Did you pay by credit card? You may have some redress if so. If I read it right you can go for a reversal of payment even if it has cleared. You would have to read the listing really carefully to see if it is misleading. Also have a look at paypal rules. I was going to buy a dodgy devoucoux a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be a scam but I had a word with cc company before I knew that and they were really helpful. Hope you get it sorted in your favour. Jo x

Some Sprenger KK have arrows, none of my NS have arrows

Can you post a pic?

I struggle to post pics TBH, can I email it to you? I paid by paypal and seller may have bought/sold it in good faith but cannot believe NS would produce such a cheap piece of rubbish. It looks like the kind of thing you find hanging on a pub wall, not apparent from the photo.

Hard to describe but where the link is in the middle the inner edges are rough and a poor shape. Put it this way I don't feel like putting it in my 4 yr old's mouth!

You can launch a 'not as described' claim to paypal. Just follow the links & you will need to say what the problem is & what amount you want refunded. The seller will receive notification of your claim & will be given a certain period of time to respond. If the seller agrees to respond DO NOT cancel your complaint. Because if you do & the money is not refunded you will not be allowed to resurect the claim. If they do not respond to the paypal claim Paypal will remove the money from their account & forward it to your account. Paypal can also limit the use on the sellers account while this claim is being investigated. Don't bother with Ebay, they're a waste of time, stick with a Paypal complaint.

There is little doubt that you will win the claim, the sellers rarely win in these matters. Just submit the claim.

Oh, forgot to say, you will also have to return the bit to the seller 'by trackable means'...basically signed for delivery. But don't return the item until the matter is resolved.

All neue schule bits have the arrow and neue schule stamped on them.

If true second hand NS, I would expect a good amount of teeth marks, as salox is quite soft

You are fully protected on eBay - PayPal just taken money from us as the buyer 'didn't like the leather', so wanted a full refund.

Meanwhile the hat I bought, not funded via a credit card, that came without safety markings (which had been removed!) has still not been decided by PayPal

If seller has funds and you paid via credit card, then you are fine if not then not sure what happens

I am thinking of using one account just for buying now, as PayPal try harder when you can complain to your credit card!!

OK - will retract that : The waterfords and bauchers don't have arrows -only the tranz lozenges which have a front and a back.

However should still have "NS" stamped somewhere on it

All NS bits have the NS stamped on the mouthpiece, but it does wear off relatively quickly, as CSJ said the tranz all have arrows on the side of the lozenge.
I would contact paypal asap. The NS salox should not look anything like stainless steel and if you are convinced its wrong
I would inform seller they have to refund because of distance selling regulations and if no joy I would report to trading standards.

Thanks guys, have filed a complaint via Paypal bearing in mind what you've said.

Seller's now sending me snotty emails, well I did suggest she's comitted a fraud by selling a non genuine item for more money than it's really worth, I am nothing if not direct! She has refused to answer emails or any correspondence from Paypal/Ebay

There is no NS stamp on it anywhere and it's made from some sort of white metal, not the yellowy Salox they use. The inner edges of the joints are rough and poorly finished, not what you'd expect to see from Neue Schule at all. We'll have to see what happens but thanks.

Without seeing your bit I couldn't say anything for definite but all I can say is I bought a new NS bit about a year ago on ebay (perhaps from Cotswald SJ?) and the workmanship was appalling - sharp edges and very badly finished. However when I phoned to tell the on line shop/saddlery they couldn't have been more helpful and replaced it immediately after I returned it. With the service I received I'd def buy again from them. Perhaps the bit you have bought is another that slipped under quality control?

Did you pay through paypal...?
I think they can argue your case for you.
We once bought some stained glass and it took ages to get to us and also arrived damaged as it was backed really badly and had bounced all the way to us I believe..
We had a wait a couple of week but ebay refunded our money.
The guy wasnt at all happy but at the end of the way we paid loads for postage!!
I think your case is a good one...someone has sold you something which isnt what they said it was...you have a good case to argue it and should get your money back...

Id be very tempted to get on to NS about this too....someone is passing off tat as their quality items. Im sure that would gee the seller up a bit!
