Hi everyone, its been ages since I have posted but I really need some help pretty please!
Does anyone know if these saddles are passable

I just want a cheap 17.5" generous medium fit saddle, in any material, in any condition so long as its safe for as little as possible. I have semi-retired my mare at 19 years old to be a happy hack, she was a showjumper all her life but has lost interest and had a few injuries. She is by no means ready to retire fully so she has been turned out and gets lots of cuddles and a once or twice a week hack. I never had a saddle for her as I kept her at my friends yard and always used her very posh one, she is now in my field and I find myself with no saddle (having just gave away 2 sound ones to friends who were struggling :( ) I am now on a tight budget as would really like another jumping horse once I have saved enough.

So can anyone tell me if these saddles would be ok for very light use? Or does anyone have one they wish to sell? Im really not fussy so long as it fits and is in working order x

personally i wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, there was someone (i think on here) that bought one of these cheap saddles, think that one was from india, and upon disection found all sorts of nasties in the workmanship including sharp edges that a horse would feel through the back) if you're talking that sort of budget you should be able to pick up a used thorowgood maxam or wintec or similar saddle from a local saddler, website or on ebay if you know the size you need. That or look at a good make but a very old saddle, if there is a local saddlery that sells people's second hand saddles, have a rumage through there. Just make sure the tree is undamaged.

I wouldn't, personally. I would be looking for a good, sound Wintec or Thorowgood (whichever fits). They are decent lightweight saddles and you can often pick a second hand one up cheaply on ebay.

I too also have a saddle up for sale on the H&H website. English leather, havana, 17", 9.5" d-d ring. £75 to include leathers. Postage additional. x

Countrywide now do an own brand 'kadence' copy of the wintec brand new for 150 (gave one a good examination this weekend and they look pretty good) including the interchangable gullet so would transfer onto your new horse when you get him/ her x

Or look up the Libra Hackabout Treeless which is £185 on ebay but sometimes comes up second hand. If you cantact Libra_equine they may have a sample or demo saddle cheap.

Cheap & foreign but much better standard than many far dearer saddles and a decent chance of fitting.

The £50 new saddle - VAT £8.33, Ebay seller fees c £7.00, seller profits ? say £5.00 (maybe 10 may be 15?) Importer/ distributor share, shipping from India, The saddle probably cost a quid to make.
