ok i know its not horsey related BUT , (well if it gets sold the money will go on horses so is in a round-about sort of way!!!) a week ago i sold a phone on ebay, higgest bidder has no feedback at all as they are a new user (didnt see it end as was out at the time) this made me slightly nervous as its a reasonable sum of money (£165) , they sent a message saying they had no paypal as they did not have a card so could they have my bank details??? i said no send me a cheque.
there was a phone number for the guy on there so i got OH to phone him up (im a coward) and he said yes fine will send a cheque
BUT no cheque has arrived...................so do i phone him up again??? wait a bit longer???? relist the phone?????

I do alot on e bay and this happened to me too, i would ring again and gave them a sensible deadline to send the cheque to you and advise that as soon as it has cleared you will send the phone, if it doesn't reach you by the end of that deadline re list, it takes all of two seconds to set up a paypal account so i wouldn't accept that as an excuse.
You've given them a chance then haven't you i don't think you could be much fairer.
 
if you give them your bank details its only giving them the same info as is on a cheque, ie sort code and account number, so it's perfectly safe to do so.

If they don't pay up you need to open an unpaid item dispute, go on to 'my ebay' and there is a link to do this. Ebay will give them 7 days to pay and then if they don't pay refund your final value fees and listing fees. you can then re-list the phone.
 
Ring them and demand to know what date cheque was sent then open an unpaid dispute on ebay or else you will get charged by ebay for the final sale value and charged again for relising.
I had a similar prob sold my0stereo for £3300 on 1st jan buyer said could not get here till 11th finally turned up on 16th with half the money wantng to pay the other half 3 weeks later, obviously i refused and ebay refunded my listing fees
 
Wouldn't he need a card if he has a cheque book? a cheque garuntee card or whatever, Sounds suss to me, i only ever except payment by paypal as can't be bothered with the hassle.
 
You have been luckier than me. Last year we sold a phone for £160, they paid by paypal, I sent phone-abroad...
About 2 weeks later, paypal sent me an e-mail saying that they had to take money back as the `buyer` hadn`t given permission for the money to go out, that someone had got details and stole the money. They wouldnt let me use paypal til I re-paid the money!!! I did all I could and sent off proof of postage etc but it all went his way.......... It was all a big fraud and paypal let it happen.
If I were you I would send an e-mail saying that if no reply in 2 days, you are re-listing then re-list it. It sounds like you have had a lucky escape. Seems funny that they wanted your bank details and not answering, and that they have zero feedback....
 
we have sent messages on ebay but no reply he says "he hasnt had time to go on his computer" on the phone, sarahsum1 i think you must be right about the cheque card, i find it hard to believe that an adult (which i assume he is and sounds like on the phone) does not have a debit card???i dont have any listing fees as it was one of those free listing days its just the hassle of it all and unsure what to do

go on to my ebay and open an unpaid item dispute, then ebay will handle it
 
I have done an unpaid bidder strike before now for an unpaid item and it was easy. I got my fees paid back by ebay and relisted the item. There are lots of scammers when you sell phones so I'd cut your losses.

I didn't know you had to pay final value fees? Shows i don't read the small print!
 
I would be extremely uncomfortable , in fact just wouldn't do it ever. Giving out my back account details to a stranger. Thats why paypal is safe. I'd rather pay 10% than risk giving bank details out.
 
i would as well thats why i want it send as a cheque because he has my name and address so having my account number and sort code he could sent up a phone account in my name for example?????

sarahsum1, the 10 percent is what ebay take when you sell your item, paypal take more on top of that!
 
I would also check his cheque guarantee amount as if its only for £100 then he would need to send you 2 cheques so that it will be guaranteed by the bank. Also needs to put card details on the back
