Last week I sold a few un wanted rugs with the intention to put the money towards ones that fit and are required!
One still remains unpaid, I can open an unpaid item dispute tonight but what does this mean? Does the buyer actually have any erm.."punishment" (for want of a better word!) or is it ok to bid but not pay?
Really quite annoyed, the rug I wanted to buy Is now out of stock!

Have you tried contacting the buyer? Sometimes they have just forgotten they bid on the item. If not, open the unpaid dispute, don't believe they get punished though.

Did anyone else bid on the item? If so, you can give them a second chance offer.

You need to sort out the issue first, otherwise you will have to pay fees for the "sold" item.

Yes this is what im thinking! although its not a huge amount on this particular rug I have sold a lot recently and my fees are mounting, Id rather not be adding to it for no gain!
I have emailed the buyer a few times but not heard anything back.
Can I open a non payer dispute (to avoid the ebay fees) AND resell the rug or do I then have to keep the item in case the buyer decides to pay?

It is really annoying, isn't it. I sold a rug last Thursday and also haven't received payment.
I opened a dispute today and that means that now the buyer has 4 days to pay before I can relist item and open a dispute with ebay to get my fees back, or offer item to second highest bidder etc.

FWIW, I don't think the buyer gets much of a punishment

Don't re-list until you've sorted the first sale out one way or the other, if you relist and the original buyer pays you'll get 2 lots if listing fees.
Open an unpaid item dispute, they have 7 days to respond. If they don't pay you get your fees refunded and can re-list, there are actually lots of rule changes going on within eBay at the moment and things like unpaid items and items not received are being noted and can be held against you as a buyer if a pattern develops.

What Maggiesmum said :D
Also, in the future you can apply rules to your listings to block buyers that haven't paid in the past, save yourself a bit of hassle

Here's what you need to do -

DON'T relist. If you sold it from a relist, and then the original buyer paid up, you'd be in trouble.

You need to contact the buyer. Remind them that they need to pay/re-send them the invoice.

Wait a few days for a response or a payment.

If no payment - open a Non-paying bidder dispute. This will go one of two ways - either the buyer will pay up and the sale can continue as normal, or the buyer will ignore it and then ebay will deal with them + refund your fees.

It's all very simple and easy to follow. Good luck.

Maybe we've all got the same buyer ;) I've got one atm who I hasn't paid or responded to a second invoice or then a polite message asking if there's a problem with her payment or if she bought it in error. Don't get it as she's got 100% feedback and I can see from her profile that she's paid for five items on Monday and Tuesday...

It's doubly annoying because I'm trying to wait for her to stump up for this before withdrawing my Paypal balance because the total was less than £12 (so not exactly Range Rover figures) and if I only have that one in my account, it'll sit there for all eternity taunting me until I have another fleabay blitz. Wouldn't be too bothered normally but have had just about enough lately.

This happened to me. I just sent them a message after a week saying
'Hi, I still haven't received payment. Please pay before monday otherwise I'll relist it'
Turned out they'd forgotten!
