in late july, i sold my jumping saddle on ebay, was paid very quickly and sent it the day after payment to my buyer. however, it came back 4 days later as the Post Office had let it get so wet that the box had disintegrated, and the address was no longer legible.

i sent it on again, on 31st july, but, as of yet, it has not reached my buyer, who has been amazingly patient. what do i do? the package was insured, but i dont know whether or not it is now my responsibility to claim, or the buyers, seeing as i have postage evidence and have been paid!

no - its standard first class, as they said it was too big for special delivery (about 300grams over i think). and the only answer i can get so far is 'wait till 15 working days have passed' as its not officially 'lost' until then

Hmm!

So not even recorded delivery so no tracking number?
Well Im sorry to say but if it Is lost then the maximum you will get back is £30.

Sounds like they are talking boll*cks about it being too big! Ive sold and received about 5 saddles through special delivery, that way you have tracking, guaranteed next day delivery, and £500 compensation.

It sounds like unfortunately you may ahve to wait for the 15 days.

You've got insurance so once the 15 days have passed make the claim (only you can do this)

To prove the cost of the saddle - send them the PayPal receipt, which ideally does not split the P&P cost.

Otherwise you won't get the postage costs back, which is ironic when they haven't delivered the service

It will probably be down to the Post Office backlogs, I have just started trading on Ebay, and it has taken 10 days for a set of stirrup leathers, to go from here in Cornwall, to Bristol due to the strikes, I even went in to the Post Office on Friday and had a blazing row with the manager, about the fact that I am trying to run a business, and they are trying their best to screw it up, I got so annoyed that I told him that if the parcel did not arrive by today, they would find my horsebox blockading their main gates, guess what it arrived today!!

i did opt for the extra insurance - i have it for £250, rather than the standard £30. they wouldnt do special delivery because, as i said, of its size, and when i enquired about parcelforce, they said there was no point due to the postal strikes!

so, if you guys have been through this before...i should get back the value of the saddle, if not the postage? i am never, ever, ever selling anything valuable on ebay again

mrhsaddler - you have given me the most reassurance iv had for a while!!!! was it 10 working days? im now on my 9th working day, and it had to go from wilts to derby....so i suppose its not that different. thank you! i feel a little better!

When I sold my saddle on Ebay I sent it by Parcelforce 24 hour delivery, which was pretty reasonable price wise and it was guaranteed to get there the next day. The recipient also has to sign for it so that's another safeguard. I know that's no help to you now. I really feel for you - the mail service in this country is fast becoming a joke. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

Oops, just read that you went down the Parcelforce route -sorry! That just makes the whole situation even worse - maybe privatisation would be the best thing.

Hello,

I sold 2 nice saddles last week (for really poo prices but that's another story) & had to send them both by standard parcels as they were too big for anything faster. Sent one on Thurs & one on Fri & they both arrived today.

I got £500 insurance on both, & very glad I did now after your post.

woooooppeee!!!!! i have just had an email, it has got there, thank god!! thanks for all your advice peeps, im sooooo relieved! just ironic it turned up today, after i posted here!
