Hi all just a quick update on Ebs, bloods came back ok all pretty much within the normal parameters on liver function and protein electrophoresis, a couple of borderline readings but nothing to worry about. She is still eating fast fibre like its going out of fashion and is grazing 24 hrs a day. She has put on about 10kg according to the tape but she could be a bit bloated from grass. A bit more perky she did a little half hearted trot over for breakfast today :D we are going to scope her next and if that shows nothing then the next on the list is cushings test, even though the first vet thought it probably wasnt cushings. I palapated the pressure points (diagnosing gastric ulcers) and she showed some reaction in the wither and shoulder area but was less happy when I touched her rump, swishing her back legs like she had a fly on her tummy, she also did this when I touched her flanks to feel how runny she was. So, in a way no nearer to telling what's up with her, but relieved liver and protein levels are ok! Just waiting on a call from the vets to book the endoscopy in for her which she is going to hate! I really hope it shows something up, however she still seems stable which is fab. Will keep you all posted

Ha ha, yes it was quite weird, I did the first two points (behind knee and in between legs On girth area) and she didn't bat an eye lid, then her ears went back a bit and she turned to look at me with an expression that said: "rather u didn't do that!" when
I touched behind her shoulder and on her withers, then I did the rump and you'd have thought there were flies, her leg came up and she swished at her tummy all daintily, then stepped away from me as she put her foot down. I was a bit like "okaaaay!!!!" really glad I found these vets though, they have been really patient with me on the phone all the time... I never knew I was such a nightmare owner, it's so rare that my horses are ever ill!

Marydoll, yes improvement! Still not sure of the cause an I do hold my breath because a few weeks ago she was eating 3 meals a day and losing weight but it's great she's eating again and makes me feel much happier, something is causing this and we don't have an answer yet, but the haemavite tonic is perking her up, she hasnt slipped any further and her appetite is back, so I'm very pleased overall!

Very relieved for you and Ebony that the bloods are okay. :)

It all sounds much more hopeful. I do hope things continue to improve. :)

So glad to hear some positive news for you and Ebony.

I will keep everything crossed in the hope for continued improvement. Keep us posted, and well done for all your efforts. :) x

Hi, just got off the phone with the vets, after some discussion over options we are just going to go in for the kill with gastroguard and bypass the scope, he is also coming out on Wednesday for an up to date blood sample and to check her vitals etc, he will send this blood test for testing for cushings. Hope to god one of these gives an answer! Pretty sure the gaatro

Argh! Stupid phone!
Pretty sure the Gastroguard is the way to go but not going to wait around for 2 weeks to find out we were wrong and test for cushings then. Gawd! It's a good job I love her!'

Sounds like a good idea.

And after you have spent all this money and you finally have a healthy horse again....you will produce a saddle and watch the horrified expression on her face:D

"What? You want to ride ME "

Oberon, I'm having similar thoughts about her cunning nature. I suspect it part of some elaborate plan to get me to spend my "breaking Ben in fund" so that she can remain my number One steed! Silly cow doesn't realise that she always will be no matter what ;) x
