i am trying this at the mo - has anyone used it? my horse isnt stabled so not getting the best try out! the company was fab they even came out with 10 bales and layed the bed for me! at £3.20 a bale its so much cheaper than flax! it seems to be fine but everyone at my yard is giving me funny looks and comments (not sure why its so interesting but thats livery yards for you!) so is it ok and does it hold the smell much and has anyone used it with mats?

I tried this; it was fine for my very dirty horse, just shovel out the huge poo/pee piles every day, but not good for my other very clean horse, with him I hand pick the droppings every day and muck out once a week; it was hard to sift through and ended up looking grubby. Both had thick rubber mats, the dirty horse had banks, thick bed in his wee spot and a sprinkle every where else, clean horse had a deep bed.

I have herad it is a good bed to use for a horse, but i have just started to use Megazorb, and i think megazorb is brill.

seems ok so far but hes only stabled for a few hours in the day. no dust at all, degrades 3x quicker than shavings and is so much cheaper - 5.85 a bale from our local tack shop or £4 if you pick it up from st albans, like i said the woman from the company come out the same day with ten bales (that they let you have for £3.20 a bale) and lay it for you.

yes, i've used it for years with mats, and love it. it is very clean and warm for the horse, and best of all, the pieces don't slowly break down to dust with use (the way shavings do) it is truly dust-free. i wouldn't use anything else. _Claire_ has lots of her liveries on it, and iirc she said they were all really keen on it.
also, it doesn't dry the horses' feet out (unlike shavings), and unlike paper, there isn't print to come off and get into cuts etc and infect them. it's cheaper than shavings too, and the company's really good to deal with.
