Hi,

After reading about the ecogold saddle pads on here yesterday and then about how PE have brought out their own similar range I was just wondering whether anyone has any experiences with both? Is there much difference between them? How do they compare? Only asking because the PE are literally half the price!

Thanks,

Kiri

I'd want to know about the quality of the foam in the PE ones, as that's the whole point and I'm not sure you can tell that just by looking.

I was making something recently that involved foam and I was a bit taken aback by what some of the more modern options cost raw!

Entirely see where you are coming from Tarrsteps hence asking questions :). If the ecogold are genuinely far better, for instance due to the foam used, I would spend the £££ on them. Just intrigued to know what the differences are and if the standards do vary, by how much etc :).

I'm ordering an Ecogold (via the Twittereventing promotion) & I'm debating getting either the PE one or this one http://www.hookseurope.com/product....d=104&sortType=sortPopularitet&sortOrder=DESC which is even cheaper!

Please let me know if you ordered either one and how you get on? I have invested in an Ecogold dressage pad and so far I love it - doesn't budge an inch! - would like one for my jumping saddle but wondering if the cheaper version will be as effective?

Have been using ecogold pad for about a year. I am a huge fan, doesnt move an inch xc. Have just taken delivery of premier equine pad to use at home as a spare. It is thicker and spongier than the Ecogold one, looks a lot more bulky on but is stiil a lovely pad. As a budget option I would recommend it but would definately splurge on another ecogold pad when ours wears out.

Thank you very much, I wondered if it might be a bit bulkier - I love the fact that the Ecogold one isn't at all. I might splurge on it if I am still convinced!

Just wanted to update on this as I notice the PE ones are 20% off today. I always use ecogold and have now invested in a premier equine (jump) pad. The PE one is a little shorter in the back than the ecogold, which is on the edge of what is comfortable on my jumping saddle. There are straps to attach to the girth straps which there are not on the ecogold, however, they are not long enough on my saddle, therefore useless! Although the material feels pretty similar it did move under both my horses saddles (tested on gallops and long hack). I do like the lower girth loops as they are velcro and these are useful on long girth strap saddles. All in all, great at half the price but will still be using my ecogold for competitions. I have always found PE pads shrink with washing, so time will tell with that!

Thanks for the update. Interesting that they move and come with girth straps. One of the big selling points for me with Ecogold products is they don't move and I've never had a problem with them rubbing, pulling down etc.

The only thing that makes me sad is when the company started they made schooling pads (I bought one at the equivalent of a country fair a looooong time ago) and I sold my last one to someone when I moved. I understand why it's not cost effective to produce them now they've grown - and most people want the attractive ones now anyway - but I still miss my hose down utilitarian jobs. For the matching folks, have a look at their new Flip pads. They are a next generation material as well as being pwetty.

After drooling over the Eco XC pad for almost 2 years I eventually bought one when I found out they had started doing them in burgundy (our XC colours)!!! It came in no time at all but imagine my dismay when the day after wearing it I discovered my mare in lumps just in the saddle pad area!!! I got in touch with Ecogold (had bought it directly from them in Canada) and after a few emails I was told that in just 10 years of it's production my mare was just the 3rd horse to have had an allergic reaction to the grip material. (Always knew my mare was speeesh ;) ) Anyway, they said they would make her another one but using special wool on the underside instead of the grippy material and it also arrived in less than a week at no extra cost to myself. In fact I still have the once worn original pad too!

Their customer service was second to none and despite my mare having a reaction to the "normal" pad I wouldn't hesitiate to use them again just making sure she had the wool underside again. It is the only pad I use on my jumping saddle and I love it!

Thanks for that update, really useful to know that the PE ones have moved as my Ecogold has stayed put now for weeks. MadisonBelle if that burgundy pad needs a new owner, PM me!? :-)

Tbh i think you get what you pay for, as in most things! The new Ecogold Flip Pad has THE most advanced protective foam available in it, which was specifically selected (from countless samples, I was told) by the Ecogold designers.
PE stuff is imho much more utilitarian. I will never forget taking a PE boot apart (after someone noticed a tendon guard had snapped in their xc boot, and, all credit to PE, their 'lifetime guarantee' was genuine and then sent a new pair) and the broken plastic tendon guard inside the damaged boot had uneven edges and a code printed on it. My ex took one look at it and started laughing, and said "I recognise that stuff, that's drainage pipe!!!" It was. It had done the job, no question, it had broken cleanly and not hurt the horse, but it was not a guard specifically MADE for the job of being a tendon guard in a horse boot, it was another item repurposed for the job... successfully though, of course.
I love the Ecogold stuff. I worked a horse last week fairly hard and was using the Coolfit XC pad. afterwards the panel section under the saddle was totally dry. The flaps and girth areas were a bit sweaty. That's amazing, that's the pad doing exactly what it says (I took photos, I was so impressed!) They never move, they wash brilliantly, they last for years and they look fabulous. Good enough for me! ;)
