Eczema Sufferers and anyone else really

I have Eczema on my scalp, behind my ears down my neck and on my back.
I have a problem however, after I've ridden, the eczema on my scalp is itchy, irritated and it drives me insane to the point where i've scratched it raw.
My doctor and I agree that I'd be better off with a new riding hat, preferably one that is "breathable"
So I need a lightweight, breathable hat that is easy to clean and preferably doesn't cost a bomb!
Anyone know of where I can get one? or something similar?

P.S i'm using cream and shampoo to help my scalp

Have you tried piriton to help with the itching? It works a treat for my daughter.

Hmm, not nice. I don't suffer on my head my my face and hands etc can get very bad. I have a champion ventair peaked hat for competing but I think they do some nice jockey skull ones too. I find it very comfy and airy and I don't think, compared to others in the market, they are that expensive.

I am not sure about the Troxel ones but they also do a vented one don't they?

In have a JTE sport hat - I am prone to my hair falling out and it is worse when my head gets hot. This hat has really helped - lots more vents than most of them.

Ooh I sympathise, eczema's horrid

I used to get it all across my forehead from riding hats, but now I use a Gatehouse Junior which has a towelling lining (rather than that nasty synthetic foamy stuff). I noticed in the latest Rideaway catalogue another make of hat advertising a cotton lining, but can't remember which one it is.

I've got a feeling you can buy disposable hat linings somewhere (don't know where though) which might help

The synthetic stuff really makes it sore as well, so something else would be ideal.
My doctor said his cycling helmet was that bad, he squeezed it and a lot of green fluid came out! yuck

Sorry can't help with hat suggestions, but I use Dermol for my eczema and it helps a lot - might be worth a try?

With mine I found the bobbly linings made it worse (if that makes sense) one of the only hats that doesn't have this is the Champion Ventair as they have a smooth inside and are ventilated.

I have suffered with eczema since childhood and horses and animals make it worse, i aint giving them up but have learnt that olive oil is the best! i know you would look like a dork putting it on your head but try it for a week, i would put it on to go to bed and wash it off in morning, honestly it has transformed my life at times! Especially if i have an outbreak on my face which makes me look well ill, clears it up really well!!! its even better if you keep bottle in fridge so its cool when you put it on, it doesnt burn or irritate! if you try it let me know how you get on!

I have excema on my scalp too, and it also gets onto my elbows, knees and lower back.

troxel hats aren't too expensive - ride-away usually have a reasonable selection.

my 2yr old son can suffer badly from eczema, all over his torso. we've managed to get rid of it completely by stopping using anything chemically on his skin. we use Burt's Bees stuff on his skin instead, and it has worked magic. google 'burt's bees baby' and there are loads of things. we use the shampoo, body wash, buttermilk bath, and the skin creme (magic stuff, i promise). if i ever use any other shampoo, he instantly gets a flare up again.

i also use the creme on the rest of the family for anything from dry skin to burns. seriously, i can't recommend them enough. x

i have one of these and they are a great hat for summer riding. ultra light and really breezy

i get eczema on my hands and find that a collegen based moisturizer works best for me at the mo

Any pharmacy/chemists should stock it, there are shower and bath versions as well as body lotion versions. I get it on prescription so it's free (in Wales!).

I've got the charles owen young riders ventilated skull hat. Its really light weight and breathable if you don't mind having a skull cap.
