For those of you that add straw to your horse’s hay/haylage to bulk it out - where’s the best place to buy please?

You could try buying it off the field when harvested, it would be cheaper. Most feed merchants would have access to straw. We have a few people close by who we buy our straw off. We just pick up 20 bales a time, but use it for bedding.

I would be wanting oat straw and also to make sure it's not been sprayed with any nasties. IME good oat straw is hard to get hold of.
Personally I would think oat straw is way to palatable if you are trying to slow the feeding down … I once bought oat straw by mistake (years ago) to bed on and the horse literally ate the entire bed -

I'd try to source oat straw, but it's difficult to find a source that doesn't spray - they do this to speed up harvesting/drying out. Barley is the next best option and is sprayed less frequently (easier to get hold of, too).
