I know not dog related, but I took the dogs to the lake today and took some vidoes that I want to share but I really need to trim them first. I have emailled them to my computer, and saved them in 'videos'. It is Windows. Any truly idiot proof suggestions as what to do next?

I would buy a video editing program. I am currently using Adobe Premier Elements, although I did prefer my previous one (but for some confounded reason it would not work with this computer - I think it was too many versions behind or something).

If you buy a popular one then get stuck you can look on YouTube for a how to.... I did this to learn slow motion.

Most programs have a tutorial too.

If you don't fancy that then my Windows photo viewer can edit video, but I have only ever shortened videos on it, whereas in a program you can add music, join clips together, make it lighter, zoom in etc.

Thank you. I only want to shorten it, anything else would most certainly be beyond my attention span, let alone my capabilities! Will go look...

If you just want to trim and make shorter clips then as above you can do that from Windows photo viewer, photos app or movie maker, no need to pay for software that will do far more than you need. What did you take the videos on? You can do basic editing on most smartphones. :)

BC - you overestimate me! I have my sons cast off Nokia. I have emailled him the vidoes and asked him to do it for me. Hopeless I know. I looked in photo viewer, as I have done it before, but cannot find anything useful now.

OK, I will open my photo viewer and see if I can do step by step instructions... hang on...

1. Open the video in Windows photo viewer so you can watch the video.
2. pause the video.
3.There is a little pencil in the bottom left of the screen, click that.
4.Some options will appear, select "Trim"
5. Screen will change a bit, the timeline at the bottom will have some white and cream circles on it (at either end)
6. Move the white circles from the ends of the timeline to wherever you want the video to start and finish. (The cream dot shows what is on the screen at the place it is resting)
7. In the top right corner of the screen there is a button to "save a copy" press that.
8. The screen will change to the shortened video so you can watch and check it is what you want.
9. The finished trimmed video will be in the same location that the original came from, with the asme name but with the word "trim" after it.
10... Done!

Windows live video maker will work if you have it. I think its not made anymore, but i have it on my comp. It can take a while to upload to it though, so dont think its broken if it is not working immediately...i learned that after many years ahah

Can't do it. No pencil for me, Red, even son has looked. Angry (and fed up with videos now anyway!).
