Do you use an EDT or Vet for your horses teeth.

I've heard people say never to use a vet but then others have had bad experiences with EDT's. I'm not sure our pony will let anyone near her to do the rasping, she can get nervous with things like that, doesn't like clipping and isn't particulary fond of the farrier so she may need sedation.

What are your experiences

personally would have an edt every time - vet has left parts of wolf teeth in,missed a rotting tooth and had to give 14.2hh so much sedation to try and rasp her teeth and still didn't get it complete. My edt has never had to sedate any of our horses inc the above 14.2hh - he is calm but firm and has a bit of horse sense . Plus he is much more reasonable than the vet !!!

Unless the vet is one of the few who has undergone extra dental training, then I would always choose an EDT.

Always an EDT - and always check out their qualifications thoroughly.

I have to pay for the vets' time as well as my horse is terrible with the dentist, but I consider it worth it as the EDT does a much better job IMO.
