EEEEEEEE!!! I've just won...

Hendersyde is a lovely course, i do some work there on a sat, and rode round the intro this year, wish i'd jumped pre novice. Some lovely jumps and combinations.

Well Done too, Ian is fantastic, you will have a fab day ! x

deskbound- I have burgundy breeches with a navy contrast full seat, they would be the best bet but will ruin my carefully honed dark green/navy colour co-ordination

I bet you get told to wear light colours for the benefit of the photographer! I've had my beagler banned too but was kind of expecting that one tbh.

April- I can't believe someone on here told you you looked big, how roooode!

I don't own a pair of white breeches- it's not fair on others!

No it wasn't at all - I did ask for opinions on white jods. I think I will stick to Navy or beige from now on though haha

Figjam, Hendersyde is lovely. I had a lesson there with Les Smith earlier in the year and its really nice (even though he did nearly jump me off going through the novice water - note the theme with my horse!).
I have put in for the day off but my boss is off this week! I dont care, Im only there for another 3weeks and this is too good an opportunity to miss!

Ask Nic01/OldGit how important being colour co-ordinated is!

Oh FigJam well done! I had one with Shane Breen a year ago. It was great but I will warn you, it is like having a paparazzi storm!!!! And they do make up some things that you apparently say!!

You will have a ball. From what I've seen of Ian, he's a really lovely person and of course, a magnificent rider
grin.gif

Chloe- I am indeed grinning like a mad woman! I'm afraid Mr FigJam is mega busy at work and can't get the time off.
frown.gif
Such a shame as I'm so spoilt having his lovely photos to accompany all my rambling reports!

Fear not though, as I have April voluteering to come along and she will hopefully get photos/take notes/let you know how we really did, instead of me just remembering the good bits!
wink.gif

Gamebird- in that case, I think I'll just cancel eating until next Wed!
wink.gif

Glad to hear good reports of Hendersyde, lots of variety by the sounds of it and we've a ODE on the 20th, so this will be perfect prep.
smile.gif

Saskia- I'm used to Mr FigJam running around waving a ginorma-lens while I'm riding and half the time I don't notice him, I'm so busy concentrating on what I'm doing!
blush.gif
Will have to dig out my old Horse mags and look out for your one!
smile.gif

Nic01- Promise I'll have matching boot tape! Fashion AND function, magic!

Saz0583- neither of us are to fall off, ok?! ('cos they'd definitely use those photos!)

Nothing different from usual on the paperazzi front then!

I bet they won't let you go through their images and pick out the ones you like though!

It's standard stuff having quotes massively exaggerated or misquotes in the press. They just twist what you say and paraphrase it so thart it fits in with their article.

Iv always wanted a good falling off photo.....:)
Nah, will do my best to stay in the plate but with Mr Pingy I can never be too sure if my best is good enough! Im bringing a change of clothes just in case!

Saskia, the Shane Breen Masterclass was written by a freelancer — were there really things taken out of context in the article because if so I will investigate?

I certainly don't make things up when I write up lessons, though everything in the magazine gets proof-read and edited, so sometimes phrases may get altered slightly for sense/clarity. But it shouldn't ever be far removed from the riders say on the day...

Thanks

Victoria

And I do try to reply to all emails, so if you don't ever hear back from me feel free to send me a PM on here instead. I've had about 30 emails this morning alone about the new Masterclasses that are listed, so I have to file them away until selection time and can't respond individually.

Thanks!

Congratulations!! You'll have a fab time. Ian's a great teacher - strict and shouts, but you'll really enjoy yourself!

Make sure you wave at my brood on your way down. You'll pass them all on the way to Hendersyde.

Hendersyde's a great course to school round. Youll have a ball!

NJ- thanks. I saw him do a demo with his working pupils a while back and "strict" and "shouting" would definitely have described it! But if that's what it takes to make us better, then that's what it takes! Would rather learn something than be told it's all "good" when it isn't.

Will wave on the way past- please no flooding next week!!!

Poor boy will be confused- he gets into trouble for "waving"!

As a local, what would you advise the best route is from the A68? Least twisty/turny, most direct route? Google maps tells me to turn off at Oxton and go through Thirlestane (A697), but I wasn't sure if it would be better to stick on the A68 until St Boswells (A6105)? Is 2hrs a sensible time to allow? (leaving yard at 8am, hope bypass traffic isn't too hellish!)

Not quite sure what Google Maps is trying to tell you. Very weird route!

Route I would normally tell you isn't feasible at the moment as the direct route is closed just a couple of miles north of Kelso. In which case you won't pass my brood. Doh!

So, head down A68 to Earlston, turn left into village then straight through and about 3/4 mile out you'll see a turning to the right for Kelso (also signposted for Smailholm Tower). Keep going on this til you get to the junction with A6089. Turn right to Kelso and when you come to first roundabout, turn left. Keep going til next roundabout and turn left again and keep going til you get to lodge house - turn right in here (between too very closely positioned concrete blocks!) and that's you into Hendersyde.

2 hours should be absolutely fine. If you're 4 x 4 and trailer that should give you plenty time.

Oh don't!!! It was the worst we've ever gone and (sod's law) the only time in his life J has ever stopped, and that was only because I put him to it completely bloody wrong and missed my stride (idiot!)

Mind you, I did mine August 2008 and I think the issue we were in was April or May 2009 so it does take a while!!!
Enjoy

Cheers NJ!

Saskia, I'm sure you both did fab, I'm sure it was just the added pressure of knowing your were being watched that made you miss. I'm going to try pretend it's a normal schooling session and forget about the photos/magazine aspect to try prevent nerves/reduce numpty moments!
smile.gif
Anyway, better to make mistakes when the pro's there to tell you how to fix it!

Congratulations!! That's fantastic!! V jealous.

I've watched a demo/lesson of his before and it was fantastic.

Looking forward to the report and pics

Hi Victoria, it really is no worries! It was fun to do and I was so excited, I couldn't have really cared less what was written!!!

I just remember not really understanding him at all (he's a lovely person, just quiet and I couldn't quite get the accent!) and I'd apparently said something like "he was so clear and easy to understand"!!! I laughed at the time so really don't worry!! I'm sure everyone is aware things get edited/construed differently.

Pippipony- agree, it's amazing to hear that so soon after such a big scare he's wanting to get back teaching etc. But as he said on the Burghley coverage on Sun, he's as much at risk as the next person so just wants to get on with life. I'll pass on everyone's best wishes!
