Im sat here thinking omg what have I done :eek:
Saddler came tonight as Im struggling in my current saddle which Ive had 8 yrs, my back aches, my bits are rubbed:o, Im tilting forwards and my legs flap about. My horse is an awkward fit. To accomodate me saddles sit past his last rib as hes so short coupled, so I had to have a saddle made all those years ago to fit us both and it was expensive.
So struggling with rubbed bits Ive been using a seat saver and all has been ok but I want to start competing again and Im not sure Id get away with the seat saver. Saddler said they can stitch a seat saver into my saddle but it will be expensive as I will need a new seat etc etc and due to the age of my saddle didnt think it was really cost effective.
I tried some new saddles and have ordered a made to measure Albion SLK Ultima :eek: I cant type the cost as I cant bear too :(.
What Im worrying about now is my old saddle rubbed front and back but the new one has a very high head and Im scared that will too. It was ok tonight but then so is my own for a short period.
Does anyone have one and do you suffer from rubbed bits from the high pommel?
Darent tell hubby how much it is :eek:

cant tell you about ur rubbing sorry but there was i worrying about buying a £400 saddle. it does make me feel better tho.

get ur hubby to buy it you for xmas thats what im doing :-) he he

I wish, we spend about £50 on each other!!
Ive just told him Im getting a new saddle, he hasnt asked how much......... I dont think he dare :)

Not sure how much the SLK's are but maybe a WOW would be a better option. You could have the length of the saddle fitted correctly to your horse so that it doesn't go beyond his last rib but with a larger seat size for you. (Mind you they are serious money for a new WOW I know. I've given up trying to persuade my husband to let me have one).

Ditto, just ordered one too! Did not go for the Albion as it was more expensive, but we are getting a Black Country and so far I have only heard good things about them, thank God, as this was expensive enough!
Got a TB that none of the 2nd hand saddles fitted very well and all needed adjustment, so thought might as well pay a bit extra and get new. At least this one should last a good few years as it is being made just for him. Also, now I'm stuck with trying to sell a saddle to try and pay towards the new one, but not been offered a lot for it :(. I'm gutted also, as I love this saddle, thought the horse did too, but saddler says erm, NO, and there is no way he can adjust it, damn!
Oh well, he's worth it! :D

I ordered a new Albion yesterday!

The second hand ones I tried were not that far off a new price, so I ended up ordering a new one. Unfortunately there is a months wait..so perfect timing for an early christmas present!!

yummy - congrats on your new saddle.
My new saddle is coming tonight - I can't wait. It's a mono flap black country dressage - I'm hoping the price will turn me into a dressage superstar...at least that's how I'm justifying the price :)

The SLK is fab, but is there any reason you went for the Ultima - they are normally £250 to £300 more than the standard SLK, the only difference is the leather.

I have the Ultima and have no problems with my lady bits, also I have 3 prolapsed discs and a compression fracture to my T12 which is near my bra fastener (all due to a previous accident when I was younger) The SLK is very comfortable and helps support my back.

Good choice!!

Oooh thats good news, I hope my back problems are helped too.
I knew they were all expensive but didnt know how much each one was so went with the one I felt best in also I chose the Ultima as I loved its big knee rolls, wide twist and deep seat. I tried a lower headed one, not sure which model that was and also what felt like a flatter seated one, I felt like I was swimming in them and insecure which is probably not helped by being squashed into my Jaguar for so many years.
I feel better about it today, last night I was thinking I was stupid spending so much money

Me too :D:D At least the big knee rolls stop my lower leg flapping :eek:
Lucky you on getting your new saddle, Ive got to wait a month :)

I would speak to your saddler as the style you have bought is the SLK, this is in the normal Albion leather, the one you have ordered is exactly the same saddle but it has Ultima (buffalo) leather which adds up to about £300 to the amount. Might save you a few hundred as it is the same saddle, you just tried it in the different leather, in hindsight, I wouldn't have paid the extra for the leather I would have had the standard.

I thought of a WOW as well, when I read about the seat size/last rib issues..... Is it too late? Have you parted with the ££££££s?

Thanks for the WOW suggestion. TBH Ive never seen one and dont think saddler sells them and I trust him 100% that it will be right so dont want to go with anyone else if I can help it. My new saddle is having 'flaired??' panels to accomodate his last rib problem and Im having a 17.5 inch seat which was so comfy compared to my 17 inch Jaguar.

You make me feel better, I have just ordered a made to template Prestige Optimax dressage saddle. Like yours, no doubt, the amount it cost could have bought a car!

My Jaguar had buffalo leather, at the time that was £100 more but for £300 Im not that bothered. So the ultima just means its buffalo leather?? Mmmmm thanks for that. Do you think it does give you more security though as I tried the other Albions and felt like I was a bit insecure and didnt feel like they were as deep seated, one def had different knee rolls as he said I could chose which ones I wanted.

:D:D:D I felt better once I read that lots of us are having new saddles. My moneys coming out of my dwindling horsebox fund :(

Yeah, Im stuck with mine too. Not sure how much to advertise it for. He wouldnt take it in part ex as its too old for him to sell on. Just pray I can sell it :(

When I bought mine I was offered the same saddle without the buffalo (ultima) for less but actually on looking at the Albion website it does look like the plain SLK doesn't have the moulded flaps. I assume it is what the saddler actually orders. It might all have changed but it might be worth asking if it is cheaper to have it in normal leather but the same spec as the one you tried? I agree, if there is only a hundred between it then I would have the buffalo but if you could possibly save, it might be worthwhile.

lol, Ive just had a look too and the flaps are different but then he did say I could chose which knee rolls I prefered. Sod it, its done now, I did love it and I didnt move arround like in the others. The tree shape looks the same on the website on all models so if it is the buffalo leather that kept me secure then I need it :eek::D
Cant wait now :D
