Whilst mucking out this afternoon I found a round worm in my horses poo. It was about 5cm long.
I brought my horse last spring as a two year old and I'm his 4th owner, poor little man probably only got wormed once or twice before I got him. I've always wormed and poo picked. If I've found one in his poo has it already got to a bad stage where he might have damage do you think?

If you have wormed him regularly the chances are it isnt a roundworm but a pinworm. They are notoriously difficult to get rid of with modern wormers and if it is the case he will need a 5 day course of panacur . I would think his gut will be fine even if it is a roundworm just worm appropriately now and do a poo count over the summer
Pinworms, tapewroms and encysted red worm dont show on the worm counts so Personally I would worm for tapes twice a year and encysted redworm in the winter either with equest or panacur guard and worm count the rest of the year

thanks, now ive googled pin worm it looks more like one of those, urggg!
ive got a pic of it but last time i tried uploading from photobox it didn't work.
