okay my knees shake and my stomach churns and I feel slightly sick :( (well quite a lot sick) about jumping which is quite disastrous as I have a new horse who loves jumping. I used to jump a lot but like quite a lot of people after a couple of bad falls and not jumping for a while after having had a baby and old horse wasn't really up to it now the thought of jumping 1ft 9 is terrifying let alone 1ft 9 with fillers has anybody got any ideas, schooling exercises I could try as well as finding myself an instructor who won't think I am a complete wimp!

do raised poles :) think of them like its a jump, go over it in jumping position and put it up as you feel confident going over it :) there is not rush :) have someone you trust who understands and gives a lot of praise and get them to help and build up as you go, go one hole higher then you did the last time and you will be jumping with confidence in no time :) tell a new instructor that you have lost your confidence but want to jump again explain to them where you feel comfortable and start from there - an instructor isnt gonna think your a wimp they will help you through it!

good luck and enjoy yourself :)

I'm a complete wimp!! 2ft seems HUGE to me!! Ive booked myself a lesson with a friend who is a 4* eventer and im so nervous but he knows this and will take it slowly with me. I find if you have somebody there to talk you through it and put jumps up for you instead of you having to decide that it helps alot. Also if theres a jump that scares you, just dont think about it for too long. As soon as you see the jump is up just go for it! Oh and a neck strap is a fab piece of kit!

Jumping does scare me too- but dont worry! You are most definately not a wimp- I read somewhere that riders are braver than 99% of the population who wont even get on a horse- so you sound very un-wimpy to me!! And I often feel like that but I find the way to do it is to do lots of really small jumps that you are totally comfortable with, and keep doing this until you are quite happy to put them up one or two holes. Soon you wont be so nervous!! Hope I helped a bit- I know exactly where you are coming from!! :)
