eeek me and the ponio are doing our first ever dressage test at 9:24am tomorrow!!!

I am getting a bit nervous - keep thinking I'm going to forget the test or ponio is going to go into cheeky-pony-mode, or I'm going to get in a flap and cry

it's only a walk and trot test but still quite scary!

any last minute tips for me?

Last time I did a test, the judge wrote "RELAX AND SMILE" in huge letters right across my sheet ! So make sure you do that, because if you relax, the ponio will relax. if you make a mistake, or the ponio has a strop on the centre line, so what? It the first time out, its for fun. relax as much as you can, do plenty of deep breathing, sit up straight and SMILE. Even if he goes off into cheeky ponio mode in one movement, the worst that can happen is you'll get 0 for that movement. You can still go on and score well in the other things, so ride to your strengths (ours is halt....:( )

Someobody here told me to imagine the judge naked as you enter at A and ride down the centre line...i think the effectiveness of this probably depends on the judge

Best of luck, and post a pic if you can! I am sure you'll do fine!

I had a REALLY hot judge AND writer once oh my good god, I nearly went wrong on purpose so they'd open the window and speak to me!!! I decided not to in the end, and incidentally I did go wrong probably because I was distracted.... bugger!

OK - so will make sure i breathe and remember to smile, and imagine the judge naked, unless it's a hunk in which case I need to avoid looking at him?!

My preparations for this have been totally rubbish - was supposed to be practicing last night but went out galloping and jumping logs instead

If you are that worried about forgetting the test, why dont you have someone read for you - it is perfectly fine to have that and you wont get marked down for it. Then - you can just smile and (try) ti enjoy it!

I set myself a goal this year of doing a walk & trot test - including getting my pony happy in a snaffle (a massive challenge!!) and learning the test - so I'm determined to do it without someone calling it

I'm really not worried about how well we do, just want to do it!

Good luck, I started doing some RC dressage last year, after about the 4th or 5th time it got better. I found, for some reason my eyes would stream everytime I did a test, I am convinced it hepled my marks because the judge felt sorry for me!

Have a nice time, try to relax and enjoy it, you will feel an enormous buzz afterwards, but be warned you may have an adrenaline headache too!

Something else you may find helpful is to offer your services as a writer to your local RC, or PC or any where else that does dressage, its amazing what you can pick up when writing, loads of little tips to help you get an extra point.

Oooh good luck Bex - where are you going?
I was going to do my first dressage test at a 'real' show last Sunday at the Atherstone RC but it has been postponed til Oct 5th so I have even longer to get worked up about it!
Have fun and let us know how you get on! Go for it Murphy.
