A week or so there was a post on here about some Dartmoor ponies that were going to be shot and needing rescue homes so I filled in an application with the charity and waited.

This morning I received a very nice e-mail saying there were now in excess of 30 ponies in this situation and the farmer wants £40 for a filly and £30 for a colt :(

Anyway I have e-mailed back to say it puts a different slant on it for me as if he wants paying there is no incentive for this situation not to happen year after year. There are far too many unwanted ponies / horses without paying someone to carry on churning them out.

On the other hand I feel at least I could help out a couple and give them the chance of life.

I'm so torn, any thoughts.
 
They are going via a registered charity and if the money was going to the charity i'd have had no problem but I feel its wrong to pay the farmer directly before collection which is what we're being asked to do. I don't want him to benefit I guess.
 
You have done the right thing- I'm surprised a registered charity would allow the guy to make money out of it though, are you sure that's what is happening? Of course he is gonna do it year after year if he makes over £1000 for it, why wouldn't he?? Well done and stay strong, if everyone thought like you do it wouldn't happen any more. :mad:

Mmm, there are charities and there are charities. Farmer is selling direct to the public using this charity as their agent by the sounds of it. He also knows he stands to get more for them this way than through the sale ring.
