Just had to rescue a young horse who'd managed to get caught on the fence and ping his turnout rug over his head, around his neck and stuck under his armpit :o

Fortunately I was just there when it happened and he stood for me, even though he was terrified.

Can anyone explain to me why a native should wear a turnout rug (with no leg straps or fillet string) when it's 24 degrees?

They get hot, start itching on the fence and hey pesto.....disaster :(

because people are idiots?

my welsh and my wb have been out naked 24/7 for the past week.

glad ponio stood still for you.

Madness. I gave two of ours a bath today, I would say they loved it but the 29yo was a complete beggar as per usual, you'd have thought that age would know not to paw the ground constantly

No rugs in daytime for ours for a while now, still drops a bit at night :)

why does any horse ever wear a rug (outside the stable) that does not have a fillet string or legs straps?

it is a bugbear of mine

I'd walked down the field barefoot too. I'm so grateful he didn't panic and squash my toes :D

well I am surprised no-one tried to police you and tell you that bare foot is not the way to go-but i suppose you are over 18 so no-one else feels they are responsible for you;):D

My fully clipped TB (but summer coat now coming through) has been naked when out in the day time for a good couple of weeks! I'll always wonder why people feel the need to over rug rather than just thinking about what theyre doing!
