Hi Everyone,
Going to look at a hairry little 14.2 coloured cob gelding on sunday, want something to get my confidence back and have fun on while i try and work out what to do with my gorgeous 6 year mare old who is making me pull my hair out! He is 12, bombproof on roads etc, jumps 3ft for fun and is a total schoolmaster for jumping, but hasnt really done any dressage or a great deal of schooling, but im happy to work on that as he is quite willing, its just he is currently in a jumping home (hasnt done BSJA though). only draw back is he is £4500 which seems a little over the odds to me from looking at similar ponios on horsemart/horsequest. what do you think? also do people expect you to offer less and haggle, i have only bought one horse before and i just paid the asking price because i didnt dare to negotiate! thanks x

How much unaff jumping has he done? Many wins/placings ie is he reliable? Also has he done any xc?
£4500 does sound quite pricey, I would say more like £2800 if the schooling isn't there.
I offered £2800 for my gelding who had only hunted before I bought him and he was advertised for £4500! It was a long shot, but we agreed £3500 in the end.

I would haggle (if you like him!) that seems a little too much for me. Mine was advertised at £3250 but we bought him for £2650 - always worth a haggle - they will be expecting it, no-one buys anything full price anymore surely?

If he doesn't have any money etc on his card, and has only ever done unaff - I think £4500 is a bit steep.

i think she is putting £4500 on the basis he is bombproof, but like you say done no affiliated at all, has only really done pc showjumping and hunter trials, x-c and stuff. i just know ill fall in love with him though and cheque book will be whipped out. taking OH with me though because he is a good haggler (if that is a word!). i dont think she has had many viewings because the price has put people off so fingers crossed she wants to sell!

i agree with everyone he has done no BSJA so the price is too much. and if you have to school him as well. i would offer low and at least you can go up

I think a bombproof horse is worth their weight in gold personally.

However, if you think he's too expensive - don't go and see him.

Well I sold just 10 days ago a 15.3hh 12 yrs gelding idx, who jumped , schooled, was good out on the roads was as bombproof as bombproof could be really and was a poppet to handle full stop. A lovely sort for £2500. I probably sold him slightly to cheap, but home was priority and my new horse was arriving.

Yes I would never offer the asking price no matter how much I liked the horse.
