The ned is on bute for a fortnight before off to vets for scans and xrays on his back.

He has turned into a lovely cuddly teddy bear, snuggling into me at every opportunity (not him normally).

Someone at yard said it can have a behavioural/mental effect on them as well as painkilling. Is this true?

Or is it just hes not in pain and acting how he should?

i have pony on bute for 4 years before i got him then i slowly weaned him off it (took me year) as buy vets directions i so no different behaviour from him all i know is long term it does damage over period of years though

I would say it is because he is feeling alot better, due to pain release due to the bute.
Well I always feel better when popping a pain killer, and am a much nicer person!

Bute is just an NSAID (similar to ibuprofen for humans) so shouldn't have any effect on behaviour. Like you say, probably just the effect of the pain relief!

Thanks everyone! I was thinking just a painkiller too!

Lets hope we can find the problem when he goes to vets!

Ive been lunging him (under vet orders) and he seems more relaxed when working.
