totally agree that horses should NOT ever be sweating under rugs but you have to take in to account the full history of other peoples horses and if you dont know it, you cant judge.
Fig has spent most of his life in Oz so is understandably a bit wimpy about the UK weather, he's in a MW and 2 x HW, all full necks, at the moment, and is just warm.any less rugs and he comes in cold and tucked up-what can you do? he isnt clipped (albeit hasnt really grown any winter coat either), and wears a snuggy hood to try and limit heat loss from his head, you cant leave him cold so of course he has to layer up. He is NEVER hot under his rugs.
CS is in a LW and 2 x HW and again is just nicely warm. TBH his EPSM is better if he is slightly over hot, ie just starting to get damp armpits, so again, what do you do-his muscle condition REALLY makes him very miserable when its bad, so the lesser of 2 evils is to have him a touch too warm but comfy in his body, rather than bang on temp wise but tucked up and tight and miserable and sore, surely????
Bruce isnt clipped and is a HW, but having spent all his life clipped and pampered, even now roughed of, is a bit wimpy. If it gets any milder he'll be back in his MW though.
Livery is in a MW and HW, isnt clipped but again hasnt grown a winter coat and he is just nicely warm, never sweaty, never itchy and in gleaming condition.
i prefer to play it by ear and not make sweeping statments.
