I reroute my journey to go home via the yard and find his rug wrecked - a big strip about 8 inches wide torn from from shoulder to stifle area. I am not amused as he has only had it on a week!!!

Rug wrecking is his speciality , lasy year he managed to trash one in 4 hours!
Id like to remind his lordship that these are not cheap rugs I buy him.....ok i admit i did get a rather girly colour **ahem lilac** BUT it was cheaper than the navy

Ooooh I'd be fuming!
I have warned my horsey once and for all - one more shredded rug and he has to shiver all winter!!

Not really - I couldn't bear the thought of him standing out in the cold and wet but I do feel your pain Wigglypigs!

But if you find out how yours does it let me know! Mine managed to rip his stable rug in 10 minutes and I have never found out how, despite going round the stable three times looking for sharp parts.

I dont really rate cheap rugs im afraid (unknown brands/Rhinegolds/Saxons) as they are a false economy IMO

I like horseware rugs , Rhinos or if a bit skint Amigos. He also has a Fal rug. I try and buy the heaviest outers that I can (1200 denier plus) to try an withstand the rough and tumble in the field. Im afraid he is just as much to blame as whoever ripped the rug as he is always the first to join in with the play ground games in the field.

Im tempted to gaffa tape him and his field mates mouths up.....or make them all wear grazing muzzles lol

My old mare used to be able to rip rugs within being out for 10 mins, then i was recommed a unrippable rug from my local saddler (cant remember the name) popped it on her for about 2 weeks in a field with barbed wire (to test it out) and not a bit of it ripped, took it off and put her in normal turn out rug and i have to say 12 years later she has never ripped another rug.
I think she realised that she could not rip the rug as much as she tried for 2 weeks and just gave up.

my little horse is a rug ripper... lucky if i can get 2 to last 1 winter - gaffa tape and all! I know where she ripped it once, and i put a car tyre on the fence - never ripped there since, but she finds other places! She is also very very good at ripping off the straps and leaving the rug ok - how, i wish i could put a camera on her, then i'd know!!!
I went to a equine car boot, and have stocked up for this winter - 4 rugs, (1 brand new one) all for under £60 - thought it was a bargain! Yet to rug, so can't report on the status of this winters rugs. They do look good hanging up in the shed mind!! Gaffa tape at the ready LOL

My yearling sh*t has found a way to remove his rug. When it is on the floor he stands on it and pulls the other end with his teeth, he loves the sound of it ripping! When I try and remove the rug he runs around the field with it in his mouth waving it at me. Stopped buying new rugs and left him naked!

It's not as if he hasn't got enough toys in his field to play with.

He will learn lol
