grrr.... the jeffing discovery has decided to break this evening.... OH is stranded at work with a whole load of kit for my band in the back...

the immobiliser has broken - or stuck or something, and whilst the car will unlock, the immobiliser doesn't come off so you can't start the engine... and irritatingly it's the second time in 3 weeks that it's done it. grrr.

pointless post, but its made me feel better - (and more determined to get something japanese next time) - have a cup of tea and a big piece of cake for reading.

Sorry but that made me smile - had the same problem with ours, the electrics regularly went including central locking - not funny when both dogs get locked inside. It was terrible off road too and Land Rover Assist refused to come out when it got stuck on a flat field advising 'it's not an off road vehicle'. I now have a Toyota LandCruiser and laugh in the faces if all the crappy Discos that pass me!!!

Love my "Japanesemobile". Got hooked with an import and wouldn't go back. Been there, done that with it, including mud up to the wheel arches and up over the roof... (best not to ask... LOL )

Tried to tow with a Disco and was convinced that the brakes were on - and it was only an Ifor 505!!!

Just to let you know.... 75% of all landrovers are still on the road........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
The rest made it home!!!!!

This might sound mad but is the car parked in the same place as it broke down before?? ok i'll make this as short as I can but this is a known landrover fault but they won't do anything about it.

Basically I went to a show, horse and trailer on the back. Got there, it wouldn't lock on the button, thought the battery had run out and lock it on the key. Came out and tried to unlock the car, it wouldn't, opened on the key and all hell let loose, the immobiliser would not turn off but the alarm kept going off. Cut a very long story short, the AA man unhitched my trailer and him and hubby pushed my car 30ft forward, it started straight away. The overhead cables of the electricity do something to the immobiliser and stops it unlocking.

Might be worth a look???

good luck xx

Yep. Know the stats on Landys. Have owned classic Landy's for the past 15 years. Also was very involved with off roading for many years. Currently have a 109 straight 6. I very well know their capabilities and their failings too. - Mainly down to the modern chassis and electrics... I could go on but would be very boring...

Basically I am a fan of both, have experience of both (put both thru hell and back again! The stories would make your toes curl

) but am a realist in what I am asking of my car.

might be worth trying a different remote if you have one, i think there is also something you can do to reset the remotes like hold button down for 5 seconds...

thanks guys,

basically it looks like the remote is dying - not the battery in it, but the remote itself.

We're going to get the immobiliser disconnected - lets face it - who, in their right mind is going to steal a camp turquoise green P reg disco? and if they're that bothered they'd be able to disconnect the immobiliser themselves anyway!

I love the disco, it's never let me down until now, and it tows up and down our big hills, with 2 horses in a 3 horse wooden trailer and I've never yet got it stuck.

despite my comments about getting something japanese we just can't afford to pay more than 2k for a 4x4 and you don't get anything but landys for that price that are worth having!
