How many for you do egg counts??
I normally worm my 2 girls every 3 months with Equest and Pramox alternatively. I have them at home and no other horses graze with them, we poo pick etc and try to maintain the grazing.
Well, I got the results today, one was very low at under 50 epg and the other at 600 epg!! WOW I was shocked at the difference as the one with the higher reading is the fattest! lol
Anyway I rang the lab and they said considering the time of year to worm both with Pramox.
Would be interesting to hear similar stories.
Thanks
Anita

i do egg counts - this time both mine at home were zero - done last week. They reckon 20% of horses carry 80% of the worms so your high one must be in the 20%

Some horses like grazing near dung / some especially yongsters eat dung or if land well grazed or small area then worm burdens go up - and some are just unlucky!

How soon after worming did you do your egg count?

Hi Anita, I have worm counted now for a few years. Although this year I have gone through the company Intelligent Worming, they take all the guess work out, hassle & my forgetting what to do & when! Have wormed the yearlings regular during their first year & the big girls have had counts. Thankfully always low but did have one once of 300 from one of the mares, all in the same paddock, poo picked regularly but interestingly she was the one who was out competing.
