Hi all!

My TB has recently been diagnosed with EGUS and is currently on a course of Gastrogard. He's doing well, looks fit and healthy and has never lacked in energy so the diagnosis has come as a bit of a surprise.

My question is; how soon after commencing treatment did you start working your horses again or did you never stop working them? My lad's had a bit of a break as we thought the problem was muscular to start with so now I'm wondering when to bring him back into work.

Any advice or experiences of EGUS would be welcome :)

You don't need to stop working him.

Long-term the key is to get diet & management right. A low starch diet (cereals are not your friend) with ad-lib hay when in or access to grazing when out, ideally as much turnout as possible if he's happy out. Minimise stress as far a possible. When the GastroGuard is finished you may want to use something like Equine Ameica's Ulser Gard to try & prevent a recurrance. Do you have any idea why he got them?

He almost certainly did. Still that probably makes it easier for you long term because his current lifestyle will probably be better in terms of ulcer management so when they clear up hopefully they'll e less likely to recur :)

When my boy had ulcers the vet advised me to give him a few days for the gastrogard to start to take effect, which it clearly did after three days, and then start ridden exercise.
