I snapped my collarbone clean in half about.... eight or nine weeks ago now?... and I'm still having problems with my back/ neck and arm. :(
My mare threw me after getting a little tooo excited on the roads. She slipped with her front end and bucked with her back end and chucked me, then stood on me.
All I can recall after hitting the deck was 'oh NO! I have a show in three days!!' and needless to say I didn't attend. xD

But yeah, the hospital thought I'd dislocated it cause the end of the bone was displaced so far out. :L Not good.
But it's healed now, with about half an inch of bone overlap which is annoying, and I'm still having trouble with laying on that side in bed, with lifting heavy things etc. with that arm.

Anyone have similar issue? I stopped physio about a week ago, they said I was fine.

A friend had a similar experience - got thrown and broke collar bone. he was still having alot of pain for weeks after. Eventually he went back to gp/hospital and they discovered that it hadnt set properly and there was a nerve or ligament being pinched in between, he had to have surgery to have it placed and sorted.

So if you're in a serious amount of discomfort, or just getting through the day by munching paracetamol like smarties, i'd go get a second opinion. I damaged my collar bone a few years ago and i know how much it hurts; i still get bad pains and stiffness when i sleep too long on that side, so i definitely feel your pain!

Does the physio just have you doing sort of stretching exercises to make sure you have full movement in the arm? That is all i was sort of left to do when I snapped my collar bone. It does take a while before you are pain free - i still get the odd twinge now and it must be well over 3 years ago I snapped mine in half.

If you can bear to i would actually get a session with a sports massage person as what you will have done when you hit the deck is wrench a load of other muscles and you may just have some knotted muscles in your shoulder. I had a session with a harsh but VERY good lady (she was the Leeds Rhinos - that's rugby in case you don't know - physio for several years). It was a little painful at the time but it really helped as my muscles in my other shoulder were very tight and all down my back - that's just from the impact basically and when they 'heal' they have not gone back to the correct place as it were. I would certainly say it was worth a try.

I think your rushing it a bit, my break sounds pretty much the same as yours, big overlap, took me months for it not to feel like Count Dracula with a wooden stake jammed in my shoulder area, it still can feel a bit strange 7 years on if I sleep funny on that side, if your in serious pain then back to the docs, but at only 8 weeks from my experience, I would still expect it to hurt a fair bit when doing stuff, hope you feel better soon ;)

I broke mine nearly 7 years ago and had a lot of pain last year so they x-raye it and told me it had never healed in the first place and whatever tissue had held it together had parted. I never even got offered physio.

I make sure now if I sleep on the dodgy shoulder I scrunch my pillow under my neck so I dont get an acute angle and I see a Chiropractor if it ever happened again I would demand better treatment I had a sling and 2 paracetemol for mine and that was it in total.

Just editted cos I realise I am in about the same position as pedantic.
