As usual, whichever fences I get put on to judge (solo) end up as the exciting ones. On my 1st fence, I had 2 riders make errors of course, and 1 stop and ask me for directions. The latter had jumped 5, then tried to jump 7 next backwards... 1 kid fell off before my fence blocking the way through for the next rider (hot on her heels) and just stood there gaping when I was screaming at her to move out the way.

On my 2nd (14), I waved 3 away to go and do 13 1st in the Intermediate (I was feeling generous), but decided to let the Open riders sort themselves out. So, I eliminated the 1st Open rider for missing out 13, then the 5th when she refused at 14, decided to take the black flag option instead, but jumped the Intermediate fence instead. We finished on an unpleasant note when the 3rd from last horse changed its mind on the broken bridge, put its front legs between the rails, and the rider fell headfirst over the fence, landed on the fine gravel and almost slithered down in to the gulley. She left in an ambulance in a sling and neck brace...

OMG what a day!!................. I so didn't need to read the last bit as have entered their BE in August

I am fence judging 1 day on that too. I should warn you that I have the reputation there as the "fence $hit magnet" - whichever 1 I am on has all the "incidents"!

The main learning point for competitors from today is to walk the course in advance. At a BE affiliated competition I will not redirect people - I will just TE you!

I think that I should be lined up and shot if I can't find my way or get around an intro course............ especially after paying that much money before even getting there.

can't imagine too many others getting lost either but then you never know i suppose!!

Lol! Sounds like an exciting day!!

You get to boss people about, wave flags (I also had 2 do 1 emergency stop and I was not a stop fence) and play with a walkie-talkie ("Breaker breaker there is a smokey joe on my tail"). If you really want to confuse Control, try pretending to be a taxi company, or ask "Who ordered the pepperoni feast and garlic bread?" in an Italian accent.

1 of my friends sometimes does it too and we run our own points system in the afternoon (when we are getting a bit bored) based upon the "subjective qualities" of both horse and riders. VPL is a TE!

Well done. My friend won the Mini. You got a 3rd, plus another HHO member came whizzing past my fence too.

stupid nag I was on played up in dressage and got eliminated from SJ. Hes now on his way to pedigree chum....

was that me whizzing past? which fence were you actually on?

10 when you were on. 14 later.

We were talking about it tonight at the yard, and the consensus is that I have set a new site record for the Technically Eliminating the most riders in 1 day. Roll on BE in August - I bet I can beat it!

Lol!! Is that TE for VPL or truly TE

VPL, ugly horse, "riding like sponsored by King Edwards", beating a tired horse, etc.

I was there too! The Flying Cow (big, fat, piebald!)! We won our section in the novice, had a fab day despite the rain! May have to retire gracefully now as there is no way we will ever repeat that performance!

He was an absolute star across country, took me all the way round without batting an eyelid (well after we got over three and out of site of the collecting ring where his pals were!) After our terrible round of SJ which was somehow clear, didnt hope for much but he was fantastic! Still not stopped smiling!

Yep you won the section I came 3rd in! Well done! Saw you Sj, you were 2 in before me, there were 3 coloureds SJing in a row!

No havent got anyone to tow the trailer unfortunately! Have to say our SJ was not our best, but i decided i didnt mind him trotting round as long as he left them up! We were very lucky with no. 7, thought it had gone!
