Do you rate them or not? Do you think that they aid softer aids or can they be uncomfortable in 'hard hands' as they 'ping' the bit in the mouth?

discuss???

Personally I like them, we have always used them with youngsters or for long reigning. I think any rein in hard hands would be uncomfortable for the horse and these would be no different.

I use mine on my cob, I hack out in them but do take them off now and again and he is so much better for them. I got mine off ebay just £12 they are realy good leather i was quite impressed.

If anyone had heavy hands then I'd rather see elastic inserts used than not. My concern with them would be that they could possibly encourage the rider to become heavy handed, especially novices. In an ideal world all riders would have a light, elastic contact anyway.

Not being the greatest rider in the world (sadly) I have never understood the point of these. Surely you want a direct feel to your horses mouth not a spongy one? If light contact is used they wont come into play anyway and if you need to pull hard frequently surely you need to work on educating yourself and your horse?

I'll sit and wait to learn. :) I'm not being sarcastic here btw. I genuinely don't see the point.

i love, love, love my elastic reins. They dont really give a spongey feel, the elastic is quite strong in them. I find they keep my shoulders, elbows and writs more relaxed and fluid. I had a bad habit of tensing them up and the reins got rid of that.
