Just to settle an arguement, I always thought you were supposed to have the elastic bit on the doing up side but my mate reckons your supposed to have it on the other side??

Also, does it matter if you have your girth on the first two straps or the first and last??

Sorry for my thickness!! Didn't pay much attention in pony club stable management!

If you have the elastic on the side that you do the girth up your more likely to overtighten it was always advised to have it on the left. However lotes of girths have elastic on both sides now.

Hi, I have been told that you are supposed to have the elastic on the other side as then you can`t overtighten it although I know lots of people that have it on the doing up side.
I have my girth on the outside 2 straps, this is because they are seperate. If you were to have it on the first 2, these are stitched together, so if for any reason it comes away, the girth comes away, whereas if it is on the end 2, and one strap breaks, they are stitched seperate.
That is what I have been taught.

The front straps are stitched singly to the side of the saddle, the back two are stitched onto the same webbing which goes across the top of the tree to the other side. So its 1st and 2nd, or 1st and 3rd. I think PC still recommends the 1st and 3rd to spread the weight better.

I have mine on the near side, so that I can get it done up more easily. Then I use my hand on the other side when I am mounted to test how much more I want it done up. Never put your hand inside the girth on the elastic side otherwise you will get a false reading!

I have elastic both ends, otherwise can twist the saddle and over tighten.

Aslong as you fasten to the first strap and one of the others, it is safe (as can be!) First two is good tobring a saddle down in front, first and third for saddles that sit 100% level. Should be first and thrid as it distributes weight evenly, as already mentioned.

always on the right!!!!! its one of my bug bears! as it prevents overtighting and on some makes the top of girth gets caught under saddle so u just end up pulling and stretching the elastic! dont like girths with elastic both sides i have one without any elastic for all reasons stated
