Hi

As above!!

I dislocated my elbow just before xmas it comes out of plaster tomorrow and then I have lots of physio to attend. I need to get on the horses early for various reasons o has any one got any suggestions of a good elbow support/brace to help whilst Im a bit weak and fragile?

thanks in advance

My best brace was a vulkan one, however you are probably going to be a bit distressed when plaster first comes off, as if they set it in a right angle cast it takes some time to straighten out!!

they had to put it back as soon as I did it so elbow is intact but will be very stiff.

Ideally I would like to spend 4 weeks doing physio before I go near a horse but I need to be riding by early Feb so think a brace or support will help. Just a little worried how weak it will be...

Goodness poor you!! That must have been very sore. Hope it straightens out ok and you get back to strength quickly.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you do it??

Well I had both radius and ulna out, and cracked one of them too!

Was in a right angled cast for 4 weeks (may have been 6) I think, which was a nightmare as couldn't even do my hair

Took me ages before I could straighten it and the brace helped as it really ached to start with

Think I was riding quickly, as I could use left hand as my ponies neck reined. However tasks involving 2 arms were challenging (moving bales, and mucking out)

On the bright side hanging water buckets from arm definitely helped it straighten out

lol thank you it was very sore. Luckily they knocked me out to put it back and the hospital staff were faultless.
I slipped over (went backwards and put my arm out behind me) on the ice so no crazy story...but I had only come off crutches 3 weeks before after having 2 ligaments reconstruction on my knee hoping this year will be a little less stunt like!

, which was a nightmare as couldn't even do my hair

haha My boyfriend had to help dress me for a week and hes got very good at pony tails (could not master a plait!)!!

poor you luckily although mine was completely dislocated nothing was broken so hoping recovery will be straight forward.

These are fab, can totally recommend,

Broke my humerus in to about thirty bits, from shoulder to elbow, had most of the shattered pieces removed and replaced with metal, these have been very good (used them when i was younger and competed in Gymnastics for my wrists!)

I wore the blue one for riding and quite often the black one at night in my bed, around the house etc!

Whatever you do, dont scrimp on the physio, :o , By all means get back on the horses, but if you want to be back on early, really do your physio as your meant to (and extra if you can manage!;)) Id also make sure you have time to go swimming as this was a massive muscle boost for me ( you do go a bit squint at first Lol ;))

It will be very weak but if you do enough work it should get back to normal :D

I dislocated my right elbow and also completely shattered the radius (might have the wrong name can never remember its name. I had a new joint put in to replace the shattered one and they put what was left back into place I also tore ligaments so lost the use of my hand and had to start all over again, I am right handed so it was a nightmare . They were concerned that I wouldn't have full use of my wrist but I was good and was constantly moving my hand, fingers as they encouraged me too and this use has come back...my arm is still bent though and though it has straightened a lot compared to what it was it will never straighten properly again.

I was back riding 4 weeks after the accident....getting off was fun I couldnt , my arm was very weak had no strength at all and I was competing 8 weeks after the accident . I had physio twice a week and the chap gave me lots of excercises to do at home and was told to swim as much as I could. I remember my delight at being able to carry a full bucket of water with my right hand again as at first I couldnt even hold an empty cup!

I have used an equissage hand unit on my right arm and still do it really helped the stiffness a lot , I have an elbow support but have never used it .

great news my injury is not half as bad as your was so Im not sure Ill be fit and on board in no time...

My weakness in the arm was the biggest problem but it got better each day, my physio was fantastic ...it hurt ....a lot but I just used to grit my teeth and think of competing again as it was the only way the arm would get better....I was clipping 3 months from the date of accident just had to stop to give the arm a rest for 20 minutes ...sure you will progress very quickly ...for the first month of riding someone else had to put saddles on for me as I didn't have the strength and I was careful what horses I rode didnt go near any breakers and turned my novices away for 3 months.
