My elderly mare is 24. I've owned her since she was five. This winter she has been in season every few weeks. She is in season at the moment which seems very odd. She is never normally in season this time of year. She has been in season so much that I have to keep washing her back legs as she gets sore from them being wet and sticky.

I'm starting to get a bit worried that there could be something wrong with her as this is really not normal for her. I haven't had a horse live to be as old as her before so I wondered if it could be age related or even something like Cushings?

I just wondered if anyone has any experience of something similar?

This isn't normal and warrants a vet call. At her age, persistent heat cycles can signal a hormonal issue like a tumor on her ovaries. Cushing's (PPID) is also a possibility and is common in seniors. A vet can run simple blood tests to check. They'll likely do a reproductive exam and a PPID test. It's the best step for your old girl's comfort and health.

I'm having issues with my mare being in season at the minute, she is only 6 though. I done a post on here the other day and it seems quite common with others at the minute.
She is turned out with just mares and they all seem to be in and out the last few weeks to!
I have my vet coming tomorrow for some checks!

I did wonder if the discharge could be an infection, rather than being in season. She's fine in herself and keeping weight on well so I was hoping she's okay.
She is weeing and drinking a lot too which I've read can be associated with cushings.
I think I'm going to book her in with the vet.
