Elderly shire in auction tomorrow

We dont know cause we were not there..... EMW could have missed her. been delayed, not had enough funds when she went through.....they may have paid for her to be delivered somewhere... any way 600 quid is not much whatever and maybe he was going to sell her on to someone else?

And if he did make a profit they why shouldnt he- after all if he was a nasty piece of work he would not of sold her at all - would he ?

And to be honest, EMW, need to keep these folk on side, after all it is not their fault the horses are in the sales - they are just paid to buy them and take them to slaughter.7

She is safe now.... thats what matters

I bought a shire x at auction a few years ago, for 525 gns. If you do not register before the auction often the auction house will take your bids.If you are going to bid on something register and take the cash.

did you mean that the auction house wont take your bids ????

Yes that is right, you always register when you arrive otherwise anyone could stick their hand up! The individual auctions do explain how to register and how long after you have to pay for whatever you have bought. But you have to have funds available ASAP usually.

If you dont register the auction house will end up with non payers.

No no, I'm sure she won't be, just the sales I used to attend, along with the meat man, certain people presented horses poor in order to bump up the price.

Sorry, sure that's not the case here. I agree, try and get a deal done before the ring, emphasising it's a charity purchase, retirement home, etc. I have even known the meat man to sell to a good home if he outbids someone - they are human.

PLEASE let us know what happens.

I went to a horse sales too where meat man goes and I was shocked and not suprised at all but I tried to dress scruffy but still looked too well dressed. Every horse owner should try to visit a sale to experience for themselves. Then I hope people would PTS rather than dump the problem on someone else or the horse end up in this sad situation(or breed less).
I think Medieval springs to mind. Most were the meat men(I am not actually knocking them as its their livlihood and I blame the person sending to market). I do know people have bought really good horses that were destined for the pot. Its the stress thats sad to see. But please go to a couple if you have never been. Out of sight out of mind.

Tommorow at Llanbydder sales an elderly shire mare is going through.
Equine Market Watch will be attending, and if possible, securing the mare as a suitable home has been offered in Devon for her.
So.....EMW are looking for help in the form of donations to the charity to both secure the mare, and take her to her new home (which will be under a loan contract) in Devon.
Anyone who can help either by donating to EMW, (perhaps a just giving page could be organised) or with transport PLEASE do so.

where is she going to from and too??

They do see people coming don't they?

Yes they do I am puzzled why any decent responsible owner sends them in the blooming first place. Perhaps there should be a fund for Free PTS before going off and ending up in the sale. I just couldnt do it. Its a bit like paying hostage ransom, they will do it again and again. Damned if you do damned if you dont.

^^^

hmm, this is why so many horses at markets are presented in a "thin" state - to get the sympathy bids. It's so sad, saw it a lot when I was in the RSPCA. I HATED attending horse markets, so glad we got it kicked out of Guildford.

When I was a welfare officer I could not cope with auctions at all . I saw and handled some awful things but auctions where a bridge to far for me.
