Elec Hook Up at Winter Champs

Nope. Electricity prices have risen 40% since the Orange one had a toddler tantrum.
We have cancelled attending two RC national champs in March and April as the price of diesel and hook up/hotel makes it ridiculously expensive for a possible frilly or two.

As far as I can remember the Winters has always done hook up for the duration rather than by the night, some of the Premier Leagues do it by night, but I cant remember the Winters every doing it that way.

Average daily electricity charges is £4.50 for a house. So im truly gobsmacked at the £105 charge. Sounds like profiteering.

It’s a bit more than that!
The infrastructure involved costs quite a bit.
Lots of the show centres outsource it (not sure if that’s the case here).
Yes there will be a level of profit involved, because we’ll, it’s horses and business, but less than you imagine I suspect.

Just go without for the day tbh!

Campsites charge up to £10 a night for electric hook up. Surely the infrastructure and maintenance of the electrics us exactly the same whether its a campsite or equestrian centre 🤷‍♀️

You're also likely paying to cover those who say they've got hook up and paid for it, and actually haven't. I stewarded the arrivals lorry park for a well known centre once for a dressage event, and the number of people who said they'd paid but actually hadn't was eyebrow raising...

But the equestrian centre has 6-12 stay away shows a year to recoup that. The camp site 365 nights (they hope!). It’s often expensive but I see it as a luxury for when times are good or it’s very cold! Most our shows are greenfield so even higher costs.
Most campsites are only open in the summer, and only have a few elec hook ups (most pitches dont have hook up)

I looked after stables and hookups for a large greenfield site 3 day event….everything had to be brought in…generators not only to provide hook up but to power showers (everyone needs hot water!)…they cost an arm and a leg, need to be as silent running as possible (complaints if noisy) they drink fuel, so needed topped up every day…
As to people using them without paying, here’s a wee story, electric trips again, third time in a couple of hours, out I stomp to be greeted by Mark Todd who had also stomped out! Follow leads back to lorries, what is this I spy, a cable coming out of lorry window and going across to another lorry and in through their window! Overloading first lorry cable and thus tripping…..
This was many years ago and probably cables, extension leads are much sturdier now….but how we laughed not!!

That is expensive !
I’m seriously thinking of putting in a diesel heater this year . I only want hook up for a bit of heating and a couple of stay away shows hook up would pay for a diesel heater .
