The ground is so hard up here that I can’t get my electric posts into the ground. I mean really rock hard despite the rain.
I was thinking is there an alternatives such as weighted posts that will sit on the ground rather than in it?
I was thinking I could possible put the posts in 5 litre tubs filled with sand?

they are for restricted grazing so need it be able to move fairly regularly.

Use the bottom of an old electric fence post that's snapped off, put a bit of wood on top and wallop with sledge hammer. Pull out, pop a bit of water in, push in new post.

You can also use a cordless drill with large bit in, to make hole for new post.

Wow, the soil is dry over there! I use a cordless drill on areas where i have hardcore laid, using a long masonry drill bit.

Normally i have the opposite issue of soil too soft and posts wobbling around, easily lifting out, which 1 horse has figured out too and uses to his escaping advantage!
I dream of fence posts with inverted teeth on the spike that bite into soft soil. A bit like the design of rawl plugs for plasterboard. Im sure a woman should be dreaming of much more exciting things! ?

I use pigtail posts as they are plastic coated metal, so can be hammered in. That said, I had such a job walloping some in the other day for a temporary field split that I have left them in the ground, despite not needing to split that field any more!

Maybe you should patent it? Its a good idea in principle. When way back in 1984 my Dad had the idea of making plastic wings cups that could be height adjusted with one hand whilst holding the end of the pole with the other I told him he should have patented the idea!

At Équirando there was a group that used something similar, but sections of rebar hammered into the ground with an insulated plastic clip to hold the electric fence tape, rather than an insulated pigtail loop.

At home, we recently installed a screw-in anchor for a parasol.

A similar, but smaller thing, could be used to hold electric fence posts.
