After so many disasters recently, just another one to add to the list!!
Arrived at the yard this morning to discover both horses were out of their field but fence still standing. Ran down to find them and it turned out that my friends horse had managed to get an electric fence pole tangled in her tail. We have a very small section of poles and tape about a foot away from a slightly weak stretch of post and rail to stop my girl scrathing her bum on it!! Obviously the horse had panicked when she realised it was stuck and had taken off over the fence and apparently over/through three more fences.
She was badly cut up and a lot of blood coming from mouth. My girl was more or less unfazed apart from a couple of cuts.
It seems with horses you can never plan for anything and no matter how hard you try its impossible to keep them safe.
Just a little warning for people that even tape and plastic is not safe!!!

Oh dear thats terrible. Hope the horse makes a speedy recovery!

hope your horse is ok. i agree after losing my yearling to electric fencing i will never have it anywhere near my horses again, which is one of the main reasons i left the yard i was on as they only had electric fencing

yes the fencing was on. another horse came through into my field and was found dead dont know why or how she died as horse owner did not get post mortum done, my yearling had her back leg shredded by the fencing nothing was attached,no tendons etc hence why she had to be put down, my mare (yearlings mum) was in with her and ended up with grazes on her tendons.i agree you cant win with fencing! at the yard my mare is on now has natural fences (hedges!) and metal gates at the entrance's and *touch wood* not heard of any accidents with the fencing and my mare hasnt had any.

i use leccy rope..far less likely to injure than tape...have seen a horse sever a leg at the hock by tape, another sever a fetlock and a foal get it above the stifle.....and i wont describe that.....horrible horrible stuff Tape, as sharp as a knife when a horse is pushing through it.....
