Having bit of a nightmare!
My horse was out again this morning having been ok for a while now.
OH who usually deals with these things is away racing (ok for some!)
He put a new battery on to charge before leaving this morning and told me to replace the old one, bring that back and charge it. Easy.
Except that the first one appears not to be charging.
Charger has 4 lights. Power on, that’s light up, then a red “flat” a yellow half charged and green fully charged. None of these are lit up.
When I put the second battery on all 4 light up but both appear flat, as in the energiser isn’t flashing power on or ticking.
Is the charger faulty?
I really don’t have time for this ? I need to be at work shortly and the horses need to be out but I just don’t dare!
Our other field has mains electric but he trashed the whole fence out there and I really really don’t have time for that one!

Could be knackered batteries, or charger is the wrong size for the batteries and has ‘cooked’ them. We recently bought 2 new mini batteries, and the charger cooked one dead before OH realised the issue. It had only been used a handful of times. Thenother battery didnt get ‘cooked’ on the same setting so OH came to the conclusion it was a faulty battery in some way.
Weve bought these mini batteries before - they last 12-18 months usually, and the previous ones were fine. So i think there’s some dodgy batteries being sold that have either sat uncharged for years (so charging them cooks them) or theyve been exposed to extreme heat or frost before we received them as customers.

What ive done before when i had no energiser working and mr houdini fence-wrecker needed to be out, was get some extra fencing tape and do a criss-cross shape. I have 3 lines usually, he went between them. So adding a ‘cross’ shape of tape from top of one post to bottom of the next post, confused his brain and he couldnt figure out how to get between the lines!

ill add a pic…

The lines have become looser - theyre not in this field anymore….but i added green criss crossing lines and that confused a very skilled fence limbo expert without the lines being energised!

Ah I was looking at my fence this morning and wondered about zig zagging from top to bottom isolators. I may have a go at that tomorrow.

It’s the same charger as we always use so should be fine for the battery size. The one battery at least should definitely work as was in use very recently. So annoying!

Chances are that both batteries have had it. When you buy two new batteries ensure that they are leisure batteries as they are more suitable for electric fencing as they can be run down and then be recharged. Conventional batteries just die if they are allowed to run down. Also check the wires on the charger and ensure that there is no break in them.
