Electric fence experts please!

Hi,
This is a question who know about Mains electric fences.
We have some mains electric fencing that as in situ when we got the place, over the years its got damaged and we have rearranged fields etc. What I am wanting to do is go around an extra field with it – but not one that is adjoining where it currently is. The field in question is one of our furthest away from the buildings so its not possible to get another energiser etc for that one. IF it was powerful enough – I would also do the field that it would have to ‘go across’ My main question is how would I get it across one field to where I want it????????????
Would I have to buy some tubing (what kind????) and put in into the ground?? Even IF I went around the other field to get to the main one I want to do, how would I deal with the gateways???? Getting a battery energiser isn’t an option as we have one and it don’t do much on a big chunky 17.2 shire!

you need underground cable to connect, you need to check the output on existing fencing too, you can buy testers for this.
 
Hi, if you want to cross a field, you have two options, either you can buy "undergate cable" and dig a small trench, or you can run some posts around the outside of your field with insulators on and "galvanised fencing wire" This wire has a low resistance and will carry the voltage with minimum loss. However, the most important thing to think about, is your earth! Everyone forgets it and it is the most important part of a fence. If you have an earth post stuck in the ground, near your mains energiser and then you set up a fence a long way away, the power of the shock will be greatly reduced.
The voltage goes along your fence line and when "dobbin" touches the fence, the "zap" travels back through the soil to where the earth stake is to make the circuit. During its trip through the soil, the high voltage pulse encounters heavy resistance and will be weakened. To overcome this, run another wire from your earth stake, out to the paddocks you wish to fence and put secondary earth stakes in each paddock. This means when dobbin touches the fence, the shock only has to travel a short way to earth and complete the circuit. Thus giving a better shock.
